Position Summary
Banyan Group is seeking an experienced and dynamic Area General Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across a portfolio of properties within the designated region. Reporting to the Regional/Group leadership team, the Area General Manager is responsible for driving business performance, ensuring operational excellence, strengthening owner relationships, developing leadership talent, and delivering exceptional guest experiences across all assigned hotels and resorts.
The successful candidate will champion Banyan Group's purpose-driven hospitality philosophy while ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, brand compliance, and people development throughout the portfolio.
Major Areas of Accountability
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
- Provide overall leadership and direction for all assigned hotels and resorts within the region.
- Drive the achievement of financial, operational, commercial, guest satisfaction, and sustainability objectives.
- Develop and execute strategic business plans in alignment with Banyan Group's corporate objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve market positioning, profitability, and operational efficiencies across the portfolio.
- Support hotel openings, transitions, rebranding projects, and operational integrations as required.
Financial Performance
- Accountable for portfolio-wide financial performance, including revenue growth, GOP, EBITDA, cash flow, and asset value enhancement.
- Review and approve annual budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditure plans.
- Monitor key performance indicators and implement corrective strategies where necessary.
- Ensure strong financial governance, cost controls, and compliance with Group policies.
Operations Excellence
- Ensure consistent delivery of Banyan Group brand standards, service excellence, and operational procedures across all properties.
- Conduct regular operational reviews to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Monitor quality assurance, risk management, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
Commercial & Business Development
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Revenue Management, and Distribution teams to maximize market share and revenue performance.
- Support business development initiatives, management contract opportunities, and owner relations.
- Build strong relationships with key corporate accounts, partners, tourism authorities, and industry stakeholders.
- Identify emerging market trends and recommend strategic actions.
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop General Managers and senior leadership teams across the portfolio.
- Foster a high-performance culture aligned with Banyan Group's values and purpose.
- Drive succession planning, leadership development, and talent retention initiatives.
- Ensure strong employee engagement and positive associate relations throughout the region.
Owner & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary operational representative for hotel owners and ownership groups.
- Maintain proactive and constructive relationships with owners through regular communication and business reviews.
- Present performance reports, strategic plans, and investment recommendations.
- Ensure owners' objectives are aligned with Banyan Group's operational and brand standards.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 12-15 years of progressive leadership experience in the hospitality industry, with a strong track record in upper-midscale, upscale, or select-service hotel operations.
- Proven success as a General Manager, Cluster General Manager, Area General Manager, or Regional Operations Leader overseeing multiple properties.
- Demonstrated expertise in driving operational efficiency, productivity improvement, cost optimization, and sustainable profitability across a portfolio of hotels.
- Strong pre-opening experience, including hotel development, opening planning, recruitment, operational setup, systems implementation, and market entry strategies.
- Experience managing multi-property operations with responsibility for achieving commercial, operational, guest satisfaction, and financial targets.
- Solid understanding of owner relations, asset management, and performance reporting.
- Experience working within branded hotel environments and ensuring compliance with brand standards while balancing local market needs.
- Exposure to hotel conversions, repositioning projects, and operational turnaround initiatives is highly desirable.
- Japanese nationality is preferred.
