ABOUT THE POSITION

Virtuos Japan is looking for a Business Development Producer to identify, develop, and pitch new game development opportunities with Japanese publishers and developers.

This role goes beyond traditional business development. The Business Development Producer will proactively identify opportunities around existing game IPs and propose new projects such as remakes, remasters, ports, and co-development initiatives.

A key part of the role is building a compelling rationale behind each proposal — why a particular IP or title should be revisited, why now is the right timing, what could be modernized or expanded, and how Virtuos can contribute to making the project successful.

The ideal candidate combines a strong network within the Japanese game industry with game knowledge, business acumen, analytical thinking, and the ability to turn ideas into compelling client proposals.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with Japanese game publishers and developers.
  • Proactively propose new projects, particularly remakes, remasters, ports, and co-development opportunities based on existing game IPs.
  • Research and analyze game IPs, market trends, historical performance, target audiences, competing titles, and platform opportunities.
  • Build a clear and logical business and creative rationale for proposed projects, including why a specific title or IP should be revisited and how it could be modernized for today's market.
  • Create high-quality pitch decks, project proposals, presentations, and other client-facing materials.
  • Present project concepts and proposals to clients, including producers, development leaders, and senior management.
  • Understand client strategies, challenges, and development needs, and translate them into potential opportunities for Virtuos.
  • Leverage an established network within the Japanese game industry to create new client relationships and project opportunities.
  • Work closely with Virtuos studios worldwide to identify the appropriate development capabilities and teams for each opportunity.
  • Coordinate with internal production, creative, engineering, art, and business development teams to develop proposals.
  • Drive opportunities from initial concept and client discussion through proposal development and potential project award.
  • Significant professional experience in the game industry, ideally in business development, production, publishing, product management, or a related role.
  • A strong and established network with major Japanese game publishers and/or developers.
  • Strong understanding of the Japanese game industry, including major publishers, developers, franchises, and market dynamics.
  • Ability to analyze game IPs and market opportunities and turn those insights into clear and convincing project proposals.
  • Experience presenting proposals to producers, development leaders, executives, or other senior client stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and proposal-development skills, including the ability to create high-quality PowerPoint presentations and pitch decks.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Native or professional-level Japanese.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in console and/or PC game development or publishing.
  • Experience with remakes, remasters, ports, co-development, or external development.
  • Experience bringing Japanese game IPs to international markets.
  • Experience conducting market, competitive, or commercial analysis for games.
  • Experience working with international development teams or studios.

    Ideal Candidate

  • We are looking for someone who does not simply respond to existing business opportunities, but proactively creates them.
  • The ideal candidate has a strong passion and understanding of games and can identify the potential of an existing IP, develop a compelling concept around it, and explain to a client why the project makes strategic and commercial sense.
  • They should be comfortable combining creative thinking, market insight, business logic, and industry relationships to turn an initial idea into a real development opportunity for Virtuos.
