Rakuten’s Auto Business was established in May 2019, at a time when the automotive industry was undergoing a once-in-a-century transformation driven by trends such as MaaS and connected cars.
The Auto Division operates the “Rakuten Car” platform, which covers the entire vehicle lifecycle, and boasts the No. 1 market share in the vehicle inspection service industry.
To meet users’ various automotive needs-including used car sales, new car test drive reservations, vehicle buybacks, tire replacements, vehicle inspections, car washes, and maintenance-we continue to expand our business (by increasing our client base and broadening our service offerings) while striving daily to improve service quality.

Position Details
In this role, you will be responsible for everything from strategy formulation to project execution within the Auto Business Division.
Upon joining the company, you will work as part of a team reporting directly to the Business Division Head and will be entrusted with leading projects to expand the Auto Business.
Specific Responsibilities
- Formulating business strategies and mid-term management plans
- Cross-functional project management across the Auto Business Division
- Driving the “Triple 20” project (20% improvement in marketing efficiency, 20% improvement in operational efficiency, and 20% improvement in client efficiency) utilizing AI
Initially, you will work alongside the Business Unit Head to drive business growth through the use of AI - one of Rakuten’s Key Success Factors (KSFs) - as well as to advance the Auto Business Division’s medium- to long-term strategy.
By leading projects while engaging sales, development, and marketing teams, you will gain valuable experience in driving business growth.

Entire Department: Approximately 70 employees
Business Planning Section, Business Strategy Group: 3 employees
The team consists mainly of young professionals in their 20s and 30s, and the organization fosters open communication and a positive, forward-looking atmosphere.
1 mid-career hire (from a consulting firm), 2 new graduates (transferred from other departments)
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Practical experience in strategy and planning at a business company or at a consulting firm
Desired Qualifications:
- A mindset that allows you to approach highly uncertain projects and a wide range of tasks with a positive and proactive attitude
- Communication skills to engage teams both within and outside your business unit to drive projects forward
- A mindset that enables you to proactively learn about and stay up to date on the automotive industry and AI as required to drive projects forward
