Role Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Shipping Analyst to join our Tokyo office, supporting our Chartering, Sale & Purchase and Newbuilding broking teams. No previous shipping experience is required. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and interested in the global shipping industry. Based in Otemachi Financial City, one of Tokyo's premier business districts, you will work in a dynamic international environment, develop your commercial skills and learn from experienced brokers.

Working closely with our brokers and internal teams, you will support commercial activities, client communications and presentation preparation. This includes compiling, translating and preparing client presentations, reports, market analysis and insights that support business development with our Japanese clients in the shipping and shipbuilding sectors. You will also respond to client enquiries, help deliver an exceptional client experience and support brokers in client meetings and commercial activities. This is a collaborative, client-facing role with regular interaction across Clarksons global network and occasional travel within Japan.
What you’ll be doing
• Support brokers with client requests, ongoing projects and commercial activities.
• Compile, translate, prepare and deliver client presentations, reports, market updates and other commercial materials in both Japanese and English.
• Assist in producing market commentary, analysis and commercial insights for clients.
• Support business development activities through research, market intelligence and the preparation of client-facing materials.
• Respond to client enquiries, follow-up requests and ad hoc requests from brokers and clients.
• Maintain reports and presentation templates.
• Collaborate closely with Clarksons' broking, research and commercial teams across the global network.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Attend client meetings alongside brokers and support the delivery of presentations, discussions and commercial initiatives where appropriate.
• Attend industry events, webinars and conferences to develop market knowledge and professional networks.
• Continuously develop knowledge of global shipping markets.
• Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Other requirements
• Experience in preparing, developing and delivering high-quality presentations, reports and other client-facing materials.

• Ability to gather, interpret and communicate data and information in a clear, engaging and commercially compelling way.
• Fluent Japanese language skills to prepare client materials, deliver presentations and communicate effectively with Japanese clients, together with fluency in English.
• Confident and effective communication and presentation skills, both in-person and virtually.

• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
• Personable, approachable and collaborative, with the ability to build effective relationships, leverage internal expertise and support positive client outcomes.

• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proactive, self-motivated and adaptable, able to use initiative.
• An interest and willingness to learn and develop knowledge industry knowledge.

• Previous experience within the shipping industry is beneficial, but is not essential.
• Willingness to travel within Japan as required.
