Job Description

As the Senior Director of Regional Human Resources for Japan, you will play a pivotal role in implementing HR strategy in Japan region and driving initiatives that align with our business objectives. Reporting directly to the VP of Regional HR, you will lead a team of HR Business Partners and oversee labour relations and factory HR escalations. You will collaborate closely with Centre’s of Excellence (COEs), including Talent Management, Compensation & Benefits, and Operations, to implement initiatives locally. Additionally, you will participate in and contribute to global HR projects. You will be a member of the Regional HR Leadership team and be a member of the Global HR leadership team providing valued insight on global strategy and impact on Japan.

Core Responsibilities


  1. HR Leadership for Japan:
    • Develop and implement HR strategies/initiatives that support the Japan-specific business goals and objectives. This includes aligning the Japan business, practises, and culture to the global Renesas approach.
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, focussing on a change of mindset and way of working moving from a more transactional and passive function to a proactive, challenging business partner.
  2. Business Partnership:
    • Collaborate closely with senior management in Japan to understand local business needs and translate them into tangible HR initiatives.
    • Through leadership of the team;
      1. Partner with Japan-based managers and leaders to address organizational challenges and drive performance excellence.
      2. Provide coaching and support to Japan-based managers on HR best practices and people management.
      3. Instil a culture of talent management and run initiatives in conjunction with COE’s to focus on attracting, retaining, and developing top talent.
      4. Drive effective performance management across the region

    • Work closely with the strategic BU HRBPs to support BU specific initiatives and goals within in the region. Act as the voice of the region to raise issues, key trends to BU HRBP.
  3. Labour Relations and Compliance:
    • Oversee labour relations activities, including relationship building, negotiation with internal and external labour unions and management of collective bargaining agreements.
    • Ensure compliance with local labour laws and regulations in Japan, maintaining a thorough understanding of legal requirements.
    • Provide guidance and support to HR team members and business leaders on labour relations matters.
  4. Team Development and Collaboration:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Regional HR team in Japan, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
    • Work closely with Centre’s of Excellence (COEs) to implement global HR initiatives locally in Japan, ensuring alignment with Japan-specific business objectives and local regulations.
    • Drive collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Japan HR function, leveraging best practices and resources across the globe.
    • Participate in and contribute to global HR projects, representing the Japan perspective and ensuring alignment with local priorities.


Qualifications
  • Significant experience in progressive HR role, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience and awareness of working in a global model.
  • Knowledge of Japanese labour laws and regulations, with experience managing labour relations and collective bargaining agreements within the semiconductor industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement HR best practices in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a commercial mindset and a track record of driving business results through effective HR strategies and initiatives within the semiconductor industry.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve excellence as well as ability to be hands on.
