Summary of Position:

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for building, implementing, and managing the commercial supply chain for Scholar Rock in Japan. The role will oversee daily operations relating to artwork, secondary packaging and distribution activities and will work closely with Scholar Rock colleagues globally, primarily in the US and Ireland. The position requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills to optimize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure products are reliably and compliantly supplied across Japan.

Position Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership

    • Manage the end-to-end supply chain operations: Establish strategies and oversee launch execution.
    • Drive strategic capabilities: Establish strong capabilities to support current and future assets resulting from the Scholar Rock pipeline.
    • Foster cross-departmental collaboration: Work closely with departments such as planning, manufacturing, logistics, regulatory, finance, IT and commercial teams to ensure supply objectives align with broader business priorities.
    • External Partner Relationship Management

      • Establish and strengthen external partnerships: Build and sustain productive relationships with external packaging contract manufacturers (CMOs) ensuring mutual benefits in terms of efficiency and cost savings.
      • Negotiate and secure strategic contracts: Support contract negotiations with packaging CMO providers to secure favorable terms and maintain high-quality service delivery.
      • Lead New Product Introduction execution with external partners for Japanese market
      • Packaging qualification: Oversight of product packaging qualification and validations activities to ensure compliance with regulations.
      • Coordinate logistics operations with colleagues and partners on the importation of drug product, and the transfer of finished goods to Wholesalers.
      • Continuous Improvement: Support continuous performance assessment and utilization of KPIs of CMO partners regarding compliance, pricing, service and capacity while maintaining business review meetings.
      • Risk mitigation: Design, implement and monitor supply operations risk mitigation strategies.
      • Supply Chain Systems

        • Supply System readiness: Partner with IT to implement systems to support supply chain operations in compliance with regulatory requirements.
        • Materials Management: Oversee purchase order/invoice management and material management within the Scholar Rock ERP system for Japan.
        • Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Oversight

          • Champion budgeting & cost control: Support management of the supply chain operations budget, monitor expenses, and actively identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining high service quality standards.
          • Conduct strategic cost-benefit analysis: Support in-depth analysis of supply chain operations to uncover potential savings in operational efficiency.
          • Delivery & Customer Satisfaction

            • Drive timely product supply: Ensure that the inventory supply runs smoothly, meeting product delivery timelines and customer expectations.
            • Ensure customer satisfaction: Guarantee timely and accurate product deliveries while maintaining service quality, accuracy, and attention to customer needs.
            • Resolve supply operations issues: Address and resolve product supply issues related to packaging operations or operational challenges to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and service excellence.
            • Organizational & Cross Functional Leadership

              • Be a proactive member of the supply chain and Japanese teams to drive commercial success.
              • Collaborate closely with global execution teams (IT/Systems, Finance) to ensure cross functional alignment.
              • Partner with quality and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with global regulations while maintaining readiness for inspections and audits for artwork, packaging, and distribution operations.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in Biopharma industry, with a minimum of 10 years at Associate Director level or above.
  • Experience in start-up/ rare disease products is a plus.
  • Commercial product launch experience including artwork, packaging operations and transportation/distribution.
  • Strong strategic planning skills with a strong interest in developing team and individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Good level of spoken and written English.
