Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off, based onsite at Carrapateena
Reporting to: Superintendent – Mid Term Planning

About The Role:

The role of a Senior Engineer – Mining Projects is to:

• Identify upcoming mine projects in collaboration with the medium-term planning team; establish timelines, rank against mining schedule, and prioritise.
• Develop documentation to define technical requirements of the project including level plans, engineering drawings, scope of work and battery limits.
• Manage consultants and engineering services providers engaged to develop supporting engineering designs.
• Engage with site stakeholders, including Mining Projects, Mining Operations, Project Management Office, and Fixed Plant Maintenance to inform planning and obtain alignment.
• Prepare project execution plans for Mining Projects including project control budgets, schedules, and RACI’s.
• Develop Project Definition Statements and work packages for Mining Projects to enable timely execution.
• Support mine infrastructure and services planning, including ventilation infrastructure, people and material logistics, shotcrete and concrete systems, compressed air services, and civil / mechanical.
• Assist in the planning of appropriate monitoring system to monitor underground mine atmosphere and ventilation, dewatering, compressed air, and power system performance.
• Maintain close relationships with site personnel and provide the conduit for transitioning the medium-term planning into short term executable projects.

The role is part of the Mine Technical and Technology team and is a full-time permanent position. Primarily based in the BHP Adelaide head office, with options to work from home and with regular site visits.

About You:

You will have:

• Extensive experience in hard rock mining engineering.
• Experience using underground mining software.

  • Deswik

• Experience in underground mine project planning.
• Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Well-developed skills in Microsoft office suite.
• Experience in project estimating and scheduling.

Ideally you will have:

• Experience in underground cave mining (SLC and/or Block Cave).
• Experience using underground mining software.

  • Ventsim
  • Pumpsim

• Experience using Pumpsim for dewatering and compressed air design.
• Experience with underground raise boring and mine services.
