The purpose of this role is to strategically plan, direct, and control all Human Resources activities of Japan and Korea by partnering with Elanco business leaders in the Affiliates, and by aligning with the global Elanco HR strategies and processes.

  • This role is responsible for the total HR spectrum comprising recruitment, compensation & benefits, labor relations, learning & development, and retention of employees.
  • This role sits on the Elanco Japan Lead Team and reports to the Senior Director – Human Resources, Asia Pacific.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:

  • Partner with Elanco business leaders to develop the regional business strategy and the corresponding HR strategy. This includes coaching line management and leading specific projects in support of the business (e.g. culture/ engagement, building capabilities, reward strategies, organization design/ realignment).  
  • Design and implement strategic workforce plans and corresponding recruitment and retention strategies. This includes talent acquisition strategies based on business plan and long-range plans. Recruit the right people for the right jobs by working closely with line managers in the selection and recruitment process by ensuring role profiling, interviewing and onboarding processes are well-documented and fairly executed. 
  • Responsible for talent management, performance management and development processes of the organization. This includes running the succession planning process and supporting the development of key talent in the region. Coordinate certain onboarding/orientation processes and lead selected training programs where appropriate. Drive and promote leadership development initiatives and work collaboratively with the Global Talent & Leadership Development team to leverage global/ central programs.
  • Ensure that compensation programs support the business needs. This includes coordinating with line management and global compensation to review compensation surveys, understanding how Elanco roles are positioned relative to the industry, and resolving specific compensation issues that may arise. This role also consults with local line management on the design of incentive programs and coordinates the review process. This shall extend to benefit programs in the Affiliate, working closely with global HR counterparts, to build a sustainable and feasible benefit plan.
  • Responsible for coordination of international assignee documentation with the global team. Ensure that the processes with third party and mobility agent are in place and compliant.
  • Ensure a cohesive working environment in the Affiliate and across the region through the adherence of labor-related laws and regulations. Actively contribute to creating a cordial, engaging, positive, and collaborative work environment through effective team-building activities and employee events.
  • Ensure positive employee relations between line managers and employees by educating and training line managers on effective management and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Responsible that HR operations (such as payroll, annual leave tracking, etc.) are performed effectively and efficiently by the local HR team and in coordination with the relevant COEs (Payroll, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards).
  • Ensure all controls and compliance systems are in place and in line with corporate guidelines while adhering to all local country regulations. Proactively establish policies and procedures to add value to current systems/ processes.  Act as Investigator if necessary.
  • Serve as business partner in the development of a best-fit organization in alignment with business strategy and objectives. Continuously be involved and provide advice in organization building projects, i.e., business structure reorganization, redundancy projects, termination of employees, etc.
  • Manage interactions and the relationship with the Labor Union in Japan with the support of outside counsel and with the Korean Labor Union in cooperation with the  Korean HRBP.
