We’re looking for a Head of Japan Market Development to join Team Snap! This is a leadership role reporting into the Director of the International Markets team - which is a recently formed, highly visible and strategic team focused on Snapchat’s global expansion. As our employee #1 in Japan, you will be responsible for formulating market strategy and driving initiatives in the market as it relates to growth and cultural relevance. The right person for this role acts as a role model of Snap values; is proactive, scrappy, and resourceful; has strong prospective partner relationships and in-depth understanding of growing and nurturing communities in Japan.  

What you’ll do:

  • Standing up Snap’s presence in Japan

  • Formulating the market strategy and identifying key levers for growth and cultural relevance

  • Building relationships, executing a wide range of local partnerships and community initiatives

  • Prioritizing and pursuing high impact opportunities for driving usage and engagement; aligning and managing in market execution cross-functionally with key global stakeholders; including Product, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Brand, Comms, Legal and Policy

  • Surfacing local feedback and insights to strengthen product / market fit

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree

  • 10+ years experience focused on driving user growth in matrixed organizations and / or startups

  • 5+ years work experience based in Japan, with a deep understanding of the consumer, the local market, the local tech and AR / communication / content ecosystem scene

  • Track record of leadership and strong progression, both individually and building teams 

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and at all levels of the organization

  • Full professional fluency in Japanese and English

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strategic mindset with distinctive problem solving skills, thrive in a test & learn approach, ability to derive actionable insights, and take high level of ownership and accountability

  • Experience bootstrapping consumer internet and tech startups as Founder / CEO / COO or similar entrepreneurial leadership experience in other organizations

  • Strong track record in business development with pre existing relationships with relevant prospective partners in Japan

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • MBA or relevant Masters degree
