MENTAL HEALTH ADVISOR
The Mental Health Advisor (MHA) provides culturally-informed counseling/psychotherapy, education, support, coaching, and case management services for university students through our Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) office. He/she/they also develops and implements mental health education programs, and provides consultation services and training for students, faculty, and staff. The MHA must have a sophisticated understanding of the role of culture in higher education, and extensive skills in effectively serving a highly diverse and international student community.
This position has two, 4-month contract periods, from late August to mid-December, and then from early January to the end of April. It is a part-time position (average 16 hr/week; 280 hr/term) and pays $14,000 USD per 4-month contract term ($28,000 USD total for the year). Our ideal candidate will be able to start in mid-August, resides in Tokyo, and is interested in becoming a longer term member of the CAPS team since the terms can be recurring. The majority of the hours are on site in our residence hall in Shinagawa, although some remote hours are possible. Services are provided both in person and through telehealth.
