Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a role focused on mobile games or apps for merchandising, marketing, copy-writing, publishing, or partnerships in an online commerce or digital content business.
  • Ability to speak and write in English and Japanese fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Marketing, editorial, or content development experience in Japan.
  • Ability to work with partners to develop co-promotion or cross-promotion strategies and campaigns.
  • Ability to advise on strategies and product requirements to enhance merchandising capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze research or performance data and apply that analysis to optimize merchandising strategy.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Effective and collaborative communication skills and collaborative working approach.

About the job

As a Games Merchandising Manager, you will impact millions of users everyday by contributing to the editorial strategy and be an advocate of Play’s editorial voice for games across the store. You will be an expert in mobile games, and will be able to understand what content is compelling for users.


Your initial focus will be on researching, curating, writing, and editing games content for long and short format for the Editors’ Choice program. You will also partner with Merchandisers across different regions to help them develop compelling content for seasonal and engagement campaigns. You will also be familiar with content publishing systems.

Google Play offers music, movies, books, apps and games for devices, powered by the cloud. It syncs across devices and on the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play do everything from engineering our backend systems, to shaping product strategy, to forming great content partnerships. They make it possible for people to do things like buy an ebook or song on their Android phone, then have it instantly available on their laptop. The Google Play team enhances the Android ecosystem by giving developers and partners a premium store where they can reach millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Research and build sources for information about mobile games and trending games. Be an expert on multiple categories of mobile games, and build a pipeline of new content.
  • Analyze user data to understand how the games and content are received by users.
  • Write and/or edit copy for long and short form articles and collections.
  • Develop user insight for the Games vertical, research new and trending games as well as help test these games for quality and usefulness.
  • Work collaboratively within a cross-functional and international team environment. Lead regional/global projects and campaigns when required.
