Position Outline

  • Credit Analysts at Manulife Investment Management, Japan primarily engaged in credit analysis of mainly Japanese companies, providing investment recommendations, and proactively developing platforms to generate multifaceted investment ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Fundamental credit analysis: Write fully ESG integrated Credit Reports on mainly Japanese corporate bond issuers, based on Internal Rating model and qualitative/quantitative analysis. Some reports need to be written in English.
  • Industry analysis: Semi-macro research and industry analysis which help the analysis on individual credit
  • Structure analysis: Analysis on covenants, subordination, etc.
  • Spread valuation: Relative value analysis based on fundamental credit analysis and financial market information such as credit spread. Timely investment recommendations to Portfolio Managers are required.
  • Contact with external resources: Participate bond issuers’ IR meetings and maintain contact with external resources such as rating agencies and sell-side equity/credit analysts
  • Active stewardship activities, such as having ESG engagement
  • Produce daily/weekly/monthly reports for internal meetings with Bloomberg and Nikkei Quick; Produce other explanatory materials as needed for external meetings. Some materials need to be in English

Reporting:

  • Head of Credit Research, Japan

Qualifications:

  • Years of Experience: At least 5 year experience of credit/equity analysis at financial institutions and/or rating agencies; credit analysis experience at active fixed income manager is preferable; equity analysis experience helps
  • Preferred: CFA, CMA, or MBA
  • Language: Native Japanese and fluent English are required

Competencies:

  • Objective-oriented: Motivated to produce alpha in bond portfolios through timely credit investment recommendations
  • Self-starter: Proactively make timely investment recommendations based on information available and his/her own analysis
  • Communicator: Communicate/discuss and co-work with peer analysts including overseas offices
  • Innovator: Always look to investigate more efficient approach

Compensation:

  • Based on experience/capability
  • Base salary and annual incentive bonus
