The Global Public Policy & Government Affairs team’s work spans across a broad and diverse range of functions and workstreams, including government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships; and philanthropy. The mission of the Global Public Policy & Government Affairs team is to prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok and to promote a political, legislative, and regulatory environment that supports growth and innovation for our business.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct research and analysis, and devise strategic approach plans for public sector engagement on issues related to TikTok's business domain.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments in Japan relevant to TikTok's business, and report findings to internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Conduct outreach to policymakers, and stakeholders driving critical policy areas not limited to internet safety for minors, personal data protection, AI governance, intellectual property protection, and platform integrity/consumer protection.
- Liaise and negotiate with relevant government ministries and agencies (e.g., Digital Agency, MIC, METI, PPC, Cabinet Secretariat/Cabinet Office) on regulatory matters affecting the platform.
- Prepare and submit reports and responses to government bodies on relevant laws, regulations, and policy developments (e.g., IDPA and TFDPA).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Legal, Comms, Trust & Safety, Product) to shape company positions on regulatory matters and mitigate policy risk.
- Work with industrial associations, allies, and NPOs.
Minimum Qualification(s)
- Substantial years of experience working in or around public policy areas, and understanding culture and methods to communicate with policymakers.
- Experience in regulatory analysis and reporting to government on relevant laws and regulations.
- Experience negotiating with government ministries and regulatory bodies, particularly on technology and platform regulation issues.
- BA/BS in public policy, politics, law, or other arts and relevant fields
- Has logical thinking, excellent communication skills in Japanese, and business-level communication skill in English as this role will require working with both external and internal stakeholders in both languages.

Preferred Qualification(s)
- Experience working with relevant technology policy issues in Japan.
- Experience working within a government ministry, regulatory agency.
