HSBC Asset Management (“AM”) Product Group is responsible for the strategic and commercial development of AM Product manufacturing capabilities including Development, Management, Governance, Support and Mandate delivery across all Global Markets. The product function is expected to undergo a significant transformation that intends to reduce the time and resource spent on BAU delivery by making the business more efficient, freeing up resources to focus on value-added activities. The Product Management & Governance function is at the centre of this transformation within Product.
This role is part of a team that manages the full documentation lifecycle, including updates and regulatory reporting for Japan domiciled products.
Responsibilities of the role holder include:
- Ensure product documentation that falls under his/her responsibility is of the highest standard, in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure all product management activities are in full compliance with all relevant internal and external product governance requirements including but not limited to any local regulatory and requirements by internal policy.
Specifically, the role holder is expected to:
- Manage all document disclosures/updates and production processes for Japan domiciled products
- Submission and ongoing management of all regulatory filings in relation to Japan domiciled products
- Publication of all required documents to various distribution channels including applicable websites
- Manage all product and document updates to meet regulatory timelines or deadlines.
- Monitor regulations and their implementation in documentation where appropriate.
- Provide ongoing assessment and interpretation of regulations and liaise with all functions
- Manage the implementation according to regulatory timelines and deadlines
- Lead the discussions with RC, Legal, Fund Trustees and other stakeholders
- Manage the printing and delivery to distributors (along with Retail Business)
- Production process for Key Information Sheets - a regulatory POS document for all local funds.
Principal Accountabilities:
Impact on the Business
- Liaise with Head of Product as well as members of the other product verticals to support new developments and initiatives to help deliver AM’s commercial strategy.
- With the broader product team, deliver high quality product documentation that is efficient to manage for the Japan and global ranges.
- With the Product team, review of the existing book of business to ensure funds remain profitable and are fit for purpose. Be responsible for the implementation of enhancements and corrective action (e.g. rationalization or mergers)
- Deliver & implement regulatory change within documentation for both Global & Japan ranges.
- Assist in any governance related approvals and provide recommendations to enhance processes
- Work on and execute initiatives to streamline processes, either through technology or offshoring, resulting in improving efficiency.
- Support the business by providing appropriate information and documentation to help service the business to fulfil regulatory and commercial obligations.
Customers / Stakeholders
- Develop good working relationships with other colleagues in the Product and wider product function globally as a priority.
- Engage with all the relevant stakeholders and building up a strong working relationship, including External and Internal clients of AM / Group, Product Specialists, Legal, Japan Fund Operations, & Trust banks and other stakeholders to facilitate the successful delivery of projects
Leadership & Teamwork
- Member of the Product team with a primary focus on Japan domiciled products but also assisting with Global initiatives.
- Liaising and coordinating with other functions/teams and stakeholders within AM and the HSBC Group
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Manage the product lifecycle according to the fund governance framework and product policies.
- Improve efficiency, through offshoring and helping to systemize delivery of standard documentation and processes.
- Maintain and improve product documentation to the highest standards and ensure regulatory and FIM requirements in relation to Product and Platform reviews
- To operate in accordance with the principles laid out in the AM FIM, the AM policies and the Terms of Reference of the GNBC/LNBCs
- To own, monitor and report on Controls as required in respect of Risks identified for the global & Japan funds.
Job Context:
- Member of the Japanese Product Team as part of the Product Management & Governance vertical, working with and reporting to the Global Head of Product Management & Governance.
Major Challenges:
- Manage multiple initiatives (at different levels of granularity) which have overlapping timelines, ensure timely delivery in a compliant and risk controlled manner, resolve conflicting priorities with different stakeholders to meet tight timeline and project deadlines
- Consider the requirements from regulators, distributors and clients.
- Adapt to changing business priorities, develop effective and robust products that adhere to the ever changing commercial and regulatory environment
- Build strong relationships and trust with colleagues and stakeholders, stakeholder engagement within the Japan and Global businesses in order to find the most suitable solution from an Investment / Operation / Risk / Compliance perspective for specific product and / or regulatory requirement
- Strong self-motivation to tightly follow up with various parties at all times
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- Previous experience in investment management and knowledge of investment strategies & techniques, asset classes and asset management products
- Previous experience in managing fund documentation and working with stakeholders and Trustees to meet regulatory filings obligations and timelines.
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Capacity to engage with various stakeholders and to coordinate complex projects
- Computer literacy (MS Office suite) is required
- Excellent Japanese (written & verbal)
- Business English Skills (written & verbal) preferred
