About Synthetic Molecule Process Development
The roles and responsibilities of Synthetic Molecule Process Development (SMPD) include process research and development of synthetic Drug Substance (DS) including small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides from pre-clinical to NDA and technology transfer to the commercial manufacturing division. Also, SMPD manufactures and supplies DS of appropriate quality for non-clinical and clinical studies. Process Chemistry TSHO (PC TSHO) is a sub-function within SMPD, primarily responsible for late-stage development activities from clinical development through commercial registration. PC TSHO aims to be a globally aligned, highly innovative process chemistry team with a broad network of academic and industrial partners, driven by scientific excellence to deliver world-class drug substance manufacturing processes that are more sustainable and cost-effective.

- 商業生産を見据えたQbDに基づく低分子原薬製造プロセスの設計
- 開発ステージに応じた治験原薬製造計画の策定、製造サイトへの技術移管、タイムリーな治験原薬の供給
- IND/NDA等に向けた原薬に関連する申請文書の作成
- 商用部門へのプロセスケミストリーに関する知識の移管
- グローバル関連部門/チームとの協働、開発戦略の作成
- 低分子原薬の化学変換（synthetic molecule chemical transformation）に関する高度な専門知識の構築・発展
- 新しいテクノロジーのプロセス開発研究や原薬製造への適用
Accountabilities
- Perform process development for small molecule drug substances from clinical development through commercialization.
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes for small molecule drug substances with a focus on cost efficiency and environmental sustainability.
- Design QbD-based manufacturing processes for small molecule drug substances with consideration for commercial manufacturing.
- Plan drug substance manufacturing activities according to the stage of development, lead technology transfer to manufacturing sites, and ensure timely supply of clinical trial materials.
- Prepare regulatory documentation to support IND, NDA, and other drug substance-related submissions.
- Transfer process chemistry knowledge and expertise to commercial manufacturing organizations.
- Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to develop and execute development strategies.
- Build and advance deep scientific expertise in chemical transformations relevant to small molecule drug substances.
- Evaluate and apply emerging technologies to process development and drug substance manufacturing.

Education and Experience
- Master’s degree; 6+ years of relevant industry experience in the field of process chemistry.
- PhD; 3+ years of relevant industry experience in the field of process chemistry.
- Deep knowledge of organic synthetic chemistry and broad hands-on experience in the field.
- Practical experience in route scouting, process development, and scale-up manufacturing of small molecule drug substances.
- Good understanding of cGMP regulations and ICH guidelines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a global, cross-functional environment.
- Experience in managing outsourced development and manufacturing activities at CDMOs (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations) is preferred.
- Experience in preparing regulatory documents to support IND and NDA submissions is preferred.
- Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD), particularly hands-on experience with Design of Experiments (DoE), is preferred.
- Knowledge of or experience with AI, machine learning, data science, in silico simulation, kinetic modeling, Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Bayesian optimization, Design of Experiments (DoE), multivariate data analysis (MVDA), computational chemistry, enzyme catalysis/biocatalysis, flow chemistry, continuous manufacturing, and digitalization and automation technologies, including laboratory automation and robotics, is preferred.
