Your Job

Molex is seeking a Sourcing Engineer to support new product development across the Consumer & Commercial Solutions (CCS) division. In this role, you will lead sourcing activities from early product development through launch, build bill of materials (BOM) cost models, execute sourcing events, and help product teams make informed cost, quality, manufacturing, and supply-risk decisions. You will act as the sourcing point of contact for development projects and help enable successful product launches through supplier strategy, cost accuracy, and cross-functional execution.

Our Team

You will join the Japan New Product Development Sourcing team and partner with product design, engineering, quality, manufacturing, category management, regional category management, division sourcing, sourcing systems, and legal support teams. The team collaborates across functions and geographies to identify capable suppliers, manage supply risk, improve sourcing processes, and transition new products into mass production.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with product development teams to manage BOM cost from early development through product launch.
  • Lead supplier identification, sourcing, selection, and contracting activities for new products and components within the CCS division.
  • Bring manufacturing, quality, cost, and Design to Value perspectives into product design decisions.
  • Conduct should-cost, make-versus-buy, market, and request for quotation (RFQ) analyses to support sourcing decisions and cost targets.
  • Develop and execute sourcing and supply strategies in partnership with category management, regional category management, and division sourcing teams.
  • Negotiate commercial terms in accordance with internal policies and coordinate legal terms with internal legal support.
  • Identify and develop suppliers and manufacturing technologies, including potential suppliers in low-cost countries.
  • Lead cross-functional sourcing workstreams, proactively manage single-source, business continuity, capacity, quality, delivery, and other supply risks, and support production ramp-up and mass-production handover.
  • Drive sourcing process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, costing accuracy, sourcing system setup, and regular project reporting.
  • Travel up to 25% as business needs require.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, supply chain, procurement, finance, project management, business, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, manufacturing, engineering, project management, finance, or a related environment.
  • Professional fluency in Japanese and business-level English, with the ability to communicate in both languages with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional work across business groups, functions, or geographies.
  • Experience using data and cost analysis to support business or sourcing decisions.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Master’s degree in engineering, supply chain, business, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in new product development sourcing or procurement within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with BOM cost modeling, should-cost analysis, RFQ execution, supplier negotiations, and make-versus-buy analysis.
  • Knowledge of metals, plastics, electronics, raw materials, outsourced manufacturing, or related category strategies.
  • Experience with supplier development, production ramp-up, supply-risk management, SAP setup, or transition to mass production.
