About the role:

Reporting to the Superintendent Community and Indigenous Affairs, you will actively promote and facilitate employment opportunities for Traditional Owners. Your responsibilities include mentoring these employees to enhance their career progression. Additionally, you will lead the development and implementation of initiatives that support and enrich the local communities around Roy Hill's operations.

Further duties include:

  • Assume primary responsibilities for the mine in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Actively promote Roy Hill as an employer of choice to traditional owners in local towns and communities.
  • Identify emerging issues related to employee relationships and make recommendations where appropriate.
  • Assist Roy Hill to ensure practices are consistent culturally providing advice and guidance.
  • Advise on cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols and heritage matters.
  • Assist the Community and Indigenous Affairs Superintendent as on-site support and oversee all activities during the execution of SCHMP trip (Social Cultural and Heritage Management Plan) and any support KNAC may require from mine.
  • Provide support for the Indigenous Business Specialist by engaging with the businesses on ground.
  • Be the primary Roy Hill point of contact for local communities in East Pilbara.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Significant experience working with remote communities.
  • Experience working in the mining resource sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture and heritage.
  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing or supervising a small team.
  • Experience bringing stakeholders together to deliver on projects.
  • Valid Western Australian manual, C class drivers’ licence.
  • Advanced 4wd training.
  • Current first aid qualification.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience with pastoral stations.
  • Cert 4 or tertiary qualification in Indigenous studies.
  • Native Title related qualification (law, heritage etc).
