Role Purpose

  • To deliver and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English.

Accountabilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English language lessons which meet the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles – up to the number of contracted teaching hours
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy and a sense of progress
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
  • Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
  • Assist the teaching center team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council Values and Behaviours
  • Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

Qualifications

Essentials

  • Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL
  • Undergraduate/University degree

Desirables

  • Recognised Young Learner certificate (CELTYL, TYLEC)
  • PGCE in Primary / Secondary or equivalent
  • Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA/Trinity Dip TESOL


Language Requirements

  • High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module

Work Experience

  • 2 years full-time post certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity certTESOL – with experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
  • Note a minimum of 1200+ hours experience should have been gained from teaching two or more of the following age groups:
    • Young learners aged 5 to 7
    • Young learners aged 8 to 12
    • Young learners aged 13 to 17


Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: You will be paid at a salary that corresponds to your teaching qualification and experience post qualification as stated below;
    • JPY 262,500 for teachers with a CELTA or equivalent
    • JPY 277,500 for teachers with a DELTA or equivalent
  • Start date: August 2024
  • Teaching Hours: The contract is for 30 hours of work a week, with up to 18 hours per week of teaching
  • Work Schedule: Teachers appointed to this position will be required to work on both Saturdays and Sundays. They may be primarily based in one Teaching Centre but may be required to work at other locations based on operational needs.

  • Local restriction on employment: Candidates must be eligible to apply for the right to work in Japan. Once offered employment, a Certificate of Eligibility and working visa must be applied for and secured before the candidate can commence work. Should the application be refused for any reason the offer of employment will be withdrawn
