About the role:
The Accounting Manager Japan is part of the Offshore Accounting APAC team. The purpose of the role is to ensure that RWE Japan Group is compliant with both local Japanese GAAP and RWE Group IFRS & Accounting Directives. In addition the role holder is responsible for core operational accounting tasks including system, process and control design for transactions within Japan. The role is the “financial backbone” of the country finance team and is involved in all aspects of accounting from strategic insight to transaction processing.
Your tasks:

  • Control and coordinate the day-to-day interface and service contract with external bookkeeper and payroll provider
  • Prepare and report RWE Japan Group companies in line with local GAAP, fulfilling statutory reporting responsibility and financial compliance
  • Prepare and report financial statements to RWE Offshore segment in Germany as part of the quarterly and year end reporting process
  • Maintain relationship with external auditor providing necessary supporting evidence to ensure fully compliant audit
  • Review, design and test financial controls – taking ownership for areas of improvement.
  • Providing accounting advice (both IFRS and local GAAP) relating to offshore development projects in Japan (e.g. advising on accounting implications for contract and auction design) to support business growth
  • Work with RWE AG Corporate Finance team to coordinate relationship and interface with local banks, work with Offshore Controlling team to forecast cash call requirements and organize necessary drawdown from RWE Group in Germany, to review and incorporate accounting specific topics into mid-term plan and forecasts e.g. interpretation of RWE Group and local capitalization policy, and to ensure that both international and local recharges are made on time and are accurate
  • Work with Human Resource team to process and control personnel expenses in region
  • Work with Tax team to provide support to ensure local legal structure is optimized and tax can complete necessary tax return
  • Support transition from local bookkeeper to RWE SAP system – expected go live 2025
  • Build relationships across RWE matrix structure, in particular sister finance teams (Controlling, Projects & Investments and Procurement)

Your profile:

  • Advanced university degree in Economics or Business Administration; Big 4 experience is beneficial
  • 3-5 years accounting experience
  • SAP and internal control know how (especially SAP S4 HANA) is beneficial
  • Experience managing audit and preparing financial statement in both IFRS and local JGAAP
  • Advanced working knowledge of local financial compliance requirements (JGAAP) and IFRS
  • High organizational and time management skills, highly versatile and used to work in multiple projects simultaneously with different deadlines
  • Acting comfortably in cross-cultural teams, collaborating across country boundaries with a sense for diversity and inclusion; ability to building and maintain a contact network and business relationships
  • Ability to analyze and summarize complex development topics and aggregate decision-relevant information to convey messages clearly and concisely
  • Language: Japanese and English are essential (German favorable)
  • Located in Japan, opportunity for international travel
