Job Role
The Actuarial Valuation Manager (IFRS 17 BBA) is responsible for leading actuarial valuation, financial reporting, and reserving activities for long-term insurance products. This role oversees IFRS 17 (BBA model) reporting, statutory reserve calculations, solvency reporting, actuarial assumption management, and long-term financial forecasting while leading a regional actuarial team.
Working closely with finance, risk, and senior leadership teams, the successful candidate will ensure accurate actuarial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic business insights that support sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead actuarial valuation and reserve calculations for long-term insurance products.
- Manage financial reporting under IFRS 17 (BBA model), statutory reporting, and solvency reporting.
- Develop, review, and maintain actuarial assumptions, including mortality, morbidity, lapse rates, and other experience studies.
- Establish and continuously improve actuarial reserving governance frameworks and reporting processes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the actuarial valuation team while promoting cross-functional and regional collaboration.
- Prepare long-term financial forecasts, business projections, and management reports.
- Deliver business insights, profitability analysis, KPI reporting, and risk assessments to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable insurance regulations and internal governance standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Qualified Actuary or near-qualified under an internationally recognized actuarial qualification framework.
- Minimum 8 years of actuarial experience within the life insurance industry.
- Strong experience in long-term insurance valuation, actuarial reserving, and insurance financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with IFRS 17 (BBA model), statutory reporting, and actuarial governance.
- Previous team leadership or people management experience is highly preferred.
- Experience using actuarial tools such as Prophet, SAS, Databricks, AXIS, MG-ALFA, Moses, Python, and SQL is highly desirable.
- Professional working proficiency in English is required.
- Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N2 or above) is highly preferred, particularly for candidates with experience in the Japanese insurance market.
