Job Description
Wolt is looking for a Backend Kotlin Engineer to strengthen our engineering team based in Japan.
Wolt’s service was launched in Japan in 2020 and since joining forces with DoorDash last year, we have now grown into a few product development teams locally in Japan.
As an engineer on the Wolt+ team in Japan, you will focus on building, enriching and maintaining features to help our customers to better benefit from our Wolt+ subscription features. Wolt+ is Wolt’s very own subscription program, which provides affordability to our customers and the opportunity to enjoy the convenience and selection of Wolt. The products are used by not only Japanese consumers but worldwide in 25 countries! It is one of our most important and impactful products for the business in the company. We want to delight our users and provide an engaging, seamless and affordable experience!
You will collaborate with our talented wolt.com, iOS and Android engineers to bring a Wolt-grade consumer experience to our platform, and build new features in our internal tooling, to support our business & operations people to more conveniently manage our subscriptions. We also collaborate with our DoorDash counterparts in the US to build the best possible product across both companies.
The role is based in the Tokyo office and is not a fully-remote role, so while we expect you to be located in the Tokyo area, we also provide relocation support to help you make your way to Japan.
QualificationsWe are looking for an experienced developer who has at least 5 years of experience building high-quality software using modern technologies and cloud platforms. People from all technical backgrounds are welcome, as we prioritize skills and knowledge over specific technical stacks. However, your day-to-day work will be heavily involved with Kotlin as it is our primary technical stack, running as microservices on Kubernetes managed by AWS. Other stacks include Python, React, and TypeScript.
We strive for great quality in every aspect of app development, from the user interface, to having a maintainable architecture and source code, so experience with testing processes is expected. Implementing automated unit & UI testing and collaborating with our excellent QA engineers to prevent regressions will be part of your daily work.
Cross-functional with Data & Design & Product, cross-team and cross-country collaborations are common in our day-to-day workflow, so we expect you to have full autonomy, strong ownership, and great communication skills to drive projects forward, whether working alone or as a team.
