Job Summary

The purpose of the Material Planner for Additives and Base Oil is to manage strategic supply planning and oversee the inbound scheduling of both local and imported raw materials. This role serves as a key cost center, driving Shell Lubricants Japan’s supply strategy forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively managing the stock of raw materials—primarily base oils and additives—in Japan, with regular updates on base oil stock status and maintaining safety stock levels sufficient to cover one month of domestic sales demand at any given time, to ensure preparedness for potential emergencies by not only monitoring stock volumes but also taking vessels schedules into consideration through close communication with the vessel scheduler and overseas counterparties

  • Identifying and initiating opportunities to reduce Costs of Goods Sold via supply chain optimization with other teams local and global.

  • Closely watching base oils production plans in domestic BOMP (base oil manufacturing plant) as well as in other locations such as base oil hub outside of Japan and coordinating with vessel planer(s)/S&M team to devise seamless end-to-end base oil supply plan

  • Making a base oil supply forecast every month and sharing it with vessel planner(s) to balance contract vol's between multiple vendors where applicable and allow him or her to find suitable vessels according to volume requirements

  • Making monthly additives supply forecast and sharing it with global additives focal and local additive suppliers to allow them to plan their stock management and imports according to required lead-times and SLAs

  • Chairing regular meetings with additive suppliers for information sharing on actual volume discrepancies and forward volume and market outlooks, with CP

  • Supporting Raw materials and Supply planning manager in cases of Base Oil or additive shortages (STEM)… Driving alternative options of suppliers, formulations, source points etc.

  • Managing Annual Base Oils planning to match forecasted sales volume

  • Confirming purchase volumes and prices with counterparties

  • Setting and updating monthly Base Oil prices/PIRs Assisting the Raw Materials and Supply Planning Manager in ensuring Base Oil contracts are being operated in line with contractual clauses, reviewing and renewing them on annual basis with counterparties

  • Preparing documents related to base oil topics, including market price overviews, trends, and outlooks, for SLJ management meetings.

  • Conducting performance reviews and audits with Quality Assurance Team for relevant Base oil and Additive counterparties

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Supply Chain, Contract & Procurement or equivalent activities

  • Good communication and persuasion skills

  • Successful experience in project management and in leading diverse and cross-functional teams

  • Clear data management, analytical and planning capability;

  • Demonstrated analytical and project management capability

  • Solid knowledge of demand and production planning principles.

  • Basic understanding of lubricant technology, products, and production processes.

  • Working knowledge of G-SAP / SAP systems and transactions.

  • Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese
