(Communications) Manager, IPN Communication & Public Affairs (Janssen)

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
The Manager, IPN (Immunology, PAH and Neuroscience) Communication & Public Affairs, Janssen Japan is an important leadership role in our Japan Pharmaceutical Communication & Public Affairs (CPA) team responsible for our end-to-end communication strategy for our IPN Business Unit. The role reports directly to the Senior Director, Communication & Public Affairs, Janssen Japan and directly supports the Vice President, IPN, Japan. A key member of the IPN Business Unit Leadership team, the role will drive strategies supporting our in-line, market leading medicines as well as preparing for the next wave of innovative solutions.
The role will:
Develop and deploy robust, innovative strategies to increase awareness of the disease areas in which our IPN business operates and to support helping more people in Japan access our medicines.
n Proactively identify opportunities to deploy various communication and public affairs techniques and strategies to improve patient access.
n Deeply understand the business strategy and where our function can have the greatest impact for patients.
n Lead creative campaigns that communicate compelling stories about our upcoming innovations to the medical professional community and other appropriate stakeholders.
n Build the long-term reputation of our company as a leader in the IPN space.
n Represent and champion the business unit with external stakeholders, including media.
n Develop and build strong relationships with key patient groups, social media influencers and other important third-party advocates.
n Partner closely with the other CPA professionals in Japan to collaboratively draw on their expertise, identify areas of commonality to have greater impact, and share best practices.
n Develop key performance metrics and measurement tools, approaches, and systems to drive insights and performance.
n Manage and lead a network of external partners, such as public relations agencies, to deliver results for our business.
n Closely oversee budgets to ensure optimum resourcing for success.
n Develop systems and process to ensure strong and appropriate compliance across all elements of our work.
Identify and develop strategies to drive employee engagement and support key change management initiatives across the business unit, working closely with the Senior Manager, Employee Engagement & Executive Communication, Janssen Japan to execute these plans.
n Deeply understand the sentiment and perspectives of team members at all levels across the business unit, to develop insight led approaches to drive enhanced engagement.
n Execute select, focused efforts to address opportunities to build a more engaged team, in close partnership with the Janssen Employee Engagement team.
n Drive outcomes by bringing a measurement focused approach to organizational communication, incorporating relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement.
n Partner closely with Janssen Employee Engagement, Enterprise C&PA, regional C&PA, HR, and others to ensure seamless integration of Janssen corporate employee communication and Enterprise Employee communication.
n Lead change management within the business unit to ensure smooth transition to and enthusiastic uptake of a business culture which embraces our Mikibichi culture.
Provide strategic communication counsel, insights and guidance to the Vice President, IPN Janssen Japan and the business unit leadership team
n Provide the Vice President, IPN, Janssen Japan with strong strategic counsel and act as an engaged thought partner.
n Showcase a deep understanding of the relevant disease areas, the science and the strategy to provide broad, relevant counsel to our business leaders.
n Represent the Communication & Public Affairs function directly on the IPN Leadership Team and actively guide their conversations and deliberations on topics concerning our reputation and positioning both in the market and internally.
n Counsel our leaders on change management as we prepare our organization to lead our industry in a new era of medicine.
n Lead our approach on key sensitive issues and in times of crisis - provide valued counsel to our leadership.
n Support the Vice President for key employee engagement moments, ensuring the team understand they are a Credo based leader.
Actively represent Janssen Japan and engage with local cross-sector, regional and global teams across Johnson & Johnson and around the world
n As part of the Janssen Japan CPA Team, create, nurture and support a collaborative, dynamic culture within the team.
n Engage regularly with cross-sector colleagues in Japan to create a true "one team" culture with peer CPA leaders.
n Work across sector lines in Japan to communicate powerfully with one Johnson & Johnson voice at key external and internal opportunities.
n Support key enterprise CPA engagements when occasionally required
n Serve as an active and engaged member of the Asia Pacific .Communication & Public Affairs Team - building a strong function across the region.
n Deliver key regional capability building and best practice sharing initiatives.
n Represent Asia Pacific at global forums and on global projects as required.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree and above; advanced degree preferred
8-10 years working experience in business aligned, growth driving communication roles
Healthcare industry and/or policy making environment experience preferred
Proactive attitude to identify and address opportunities
Strategic thinker with ability to develop robust strategies to engage patients, clinicians and relevant third party stakeholders
Flawless Japanese written, verbal and visual communication skills are essential
High-level English written, verbal and visual communication skills is strongly preferred
Strong understanding of Japanese media and experience engaging directly with journalists
Exceptional communication and coordination skills in a complex organization with proven success navigating among multiple stakeholders
Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones
Ability to balance short- and long-term priorities
