Job Description

Team Summary
The Japan Merchant Sales & Acquiring team is responsible for the short- and long-term growth of merchant acceptance for Visa’s existing and new Digital products and services. We aspire to be the thought leaders for the future of commerce. The team is focused on expanding acceptance for enabling sellers to accept safe, efficient and low-friction payment. Another critical mission for the team is to mobilize the key stakeholders in the payments industry to transform Japan into an inter-operable and future proof payments eco-system. The team achieves its success by working with and through our key acquiring and merchant partners, as well as technology firms driving innovation in the marketplace.

What a Business Development Leader in Merchant Sales & Acquiring team does at Visa

As a Director, you will lead the sales and account management and be commercially responsible for managing one of the largest clients in Japan, with driving new physical in-store acceptance and new consumer and commercial payments opportunities (e.g. on-loop transit, small business and commercial money movement). You will build strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within the client’s organization and leverage your expertise and insights to provide them with strategic guidance and support. Working in a high performing team, you will identify new opportunities to help expand our joint business across core consumer payments, value added services and new flows. You will also work closely with various internal and external stakeholders from a range of functions including product, sales marketing, and operations, to deliver innovative solutions that meet the needs of the client and their customers. If you are passionate about transit in particular and payments in general and have a proven track record of managing highly visible, large, and complex accounts, this is the role for you.

The primary focus of this role will be to take ownership of the business relationships with key acquirers and merchants through sales efforts aimed at ensuring that the objectives of acquirers and merchants is met while growing the Visa business. This role is also responsible for targeting and closing new deals with companies accepting large volumes of online payment to add them to our growing portfolio Visa seller-side participants. We want our clients to see Visa as a trusted strategic partner that delivers tangible value and easy to do business with.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute account and portfolio level strategies that support key business metrics including client retention, revenue growth and profitability. Become a trusted advisor with clients by deeply understanding their business and aligning their needs to our solutions.
  • Serve as our customers’ advocate internally while effectively collaborating with internal, cross-functional teams including product management, customer support and finance.
  • Create new revenue by generating business opportunities by negotiating, and delivering value from various commercial contracts such as
    • Reseller programs to ensure Acceptance Solutions value proposition is effectively delivered to the indirect clients and that key business metrics are achieved.
    • New solution development efforts that best address customer needs, while coordinating the key internal resources for support.
  • Lead ongoing strategic customer meetings to communicate best Japan and global practices, successes, and business results, facilitate quarterly business reviews & executive meetings.
  • Being the single point of contact for client-related topics across functions, and across markets and regions, with daily client interaction
  • Staying informed on the latest industry trends and identifying new business opportunities

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree preferably in business management or a related field
• High level of English language proficiency in formal business communication (verbal and written)
• 12 years of experience and a track record of high performance in payment or relevant industry
• Good knowledge of the acquiring landscape with a strong understanding EMV technology, brick and mortar retail and transit
• Seasoned deal maker with strong drive to create new revenue by generating business opportunities through referrals, inbound leads, sales inquiries and prospecting, emotionally invested in driving long-term growth and value
• Strong negotiation skills and a solid track record in Sales/Business Development
• The ability to manage conflict and maintain positive relationships with clients at all times.
• Strong customer first mindset with a deep desire to deeply understand customers to enable them to achieve their goals
• Comfort and willingness to take calculated risks and with a bias for action, even when it means one must disagree and commit.
