Engineering Manager (AgriTech)

Sagri, founded in 2018, is an agri-tech start-up, solving issues in agriculture and climate change. Sagri has technological superiority in satellite data-based farmland demarcation and soil analysis, which are the basis for the creation of carbon credits from farmland. We are conducting demonstrations and operations in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, and Peru.

The Role

As the Engineering Manager, you will be reporting to the CTO and will be responsible for:

• Designing and executing the product strategy, overseeing the Sagri products and development team, and making cross-functional choices about hiring, resource allocation, and resolving technical issues.
• Managing multidisciplinary teams of backend and machine learning engineers.
• Evaluating and implementing strategies for enhancing productivity and maximizing the engineering organization's growth, focusing on the next three years.
• Fostering the development of successors and next-generation leaders through recruitment and evaluation.

Ideal Profile

• You possess a Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, and have at least 3 years of experience building and managing an engineering team.
• You are hands-on with technical aspects of development and implementation and can build and operate large-scale products.
• You have in-depth experience in at least one of the back-end development languages - Python, Node.js; and within Frontend you have worked with TypeScript/React.js/Next.js/Redux, etc.
• Experience in large-scale machine learning and statistics, with the ability to apply it to new areas such as satellite remote sensing, is a plus.
• Practical experience with ML modeling or ML systems Development experience would be advantageous.
• Development and operation experience in Microservices architecture is a plus.
• You have the ability to document system design decisions for communication between different parts of the organization
• You can maintain high performance in a high-energy and fast-paced work environment.
• Fluency in English and Japanese is required to work with teams distributed across Japan and globally.
