We are seeking an Engineering Manager to help build the engineering organization of one of Japan's fastest-growing PropTech companies, backed by one of the country's largest commercial real estate data platforms.

The Role of an Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager, your primary mission is to maximize the business value generated by engineering teams through excellence in:

People Management
Process Management
Project Management

To realize our long-term vision, we are continuously launching new products and business initiatives through our "Whole Product" strategy.

We believe speed is the most critical factor for success. To maximize organizational agility, we operate through independent business divisions, each containing cross-functional product development units composed of:

Engineers
Product Managers
Designers
Other specialized members

Each unit typically consists of no more than eight members and operates with a high degree of autonomy.

As an Engineering Manager, you will work directly within these units to help teams achieve their maximum potential and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Today, we have:

3 business divisions
14 development teams
Approximately 30 engineers

As the organization continues to grow, your role will be crucial in amplifying the impact of highly skilled Individual Contributors (ICs), including Staff Engineers, and turning individual excellence into organizational success.

Team Leadership & People Management

Support team members through goal setting, performance evaluations, mentoring, and coaching
Foster individual growth and career development

Organizational Development

Improve engineering processes and organizational effectiveness
Propose and implement initiatives that strengthen the overall engineering organization
Contribute to long-term workforce planning and organizational design

Project & Delivery Management

Maximize business value across one or more engineering teams
Facilitate effective project execution and delivery
Align engineering priorities with business objectives

Hands-On Leadership

Depending on team needs and individual strengths, you may also:

Participate in technical decision-making
Support architecture discussions
Contribute directly to implementation when appropriate
Help establish engineering best practices

Requirements

Required Qualifications

Proven professional experience as a Software Engineer
Experience working as an Engineering Manager
Experience introducing, improving, and driving software development processes and engineering practices
Hands-on experience in software architecture design, technical decision-making, system operations, and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing multiple engineering teams simultaneously
Experience managing Engineering Managers (Manager-of-Managers experience)
Experience designing, scaling, and operating engineering organizations
Experience leading engineering branding, developer relations, technical recruiting, or engineering hiring initiatives

Has built a strong foundation as an Individual Contributor (IC) Software Engineer and can effectively support and elevate the growth of other engineers
Challenges conventional approaches and is capable of redefining processes and practices based on changing organizational needs
