Job Description Summary

We are seeking a motivated Senior Field Services Engineer to support the GVHA project team in delivering technical solutions for Japanese BWR customers across plant maintenance, inspections, modification, equipment installation, and engineering support. This role involves extensive work at customer sites within the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) nuclear industry in Japan.
GVHA is the U.S.-based headquarters organization of GVH, comprising leadership, project management, engineering/field services, quality, legal, sales, and other core functions. The ideal candidate enjoys travel and hands-on field work, is proactive, and is comfortable operating in diverse environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including customers, Japanese suppliers, QA, Engineering, Project Management, and other functional organizations.
This position is primarily focused on field services, technical coordination, customer interface, and technical document review activities. The role does not include responsibility for performing engineering design calculations or formal engineering analyses

Job Description

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive support to the GVHA project team across all project phases, from preparation through on-site execution at customer locations. This includes plant inspections, maintenance, modifications, equipment installation, and technical solution implementation.

  • Support activities include project mobilization, installation, troubleshooting, customer interface/communication, and facilitating engineering discussions between GVHA Engineering (U.S.-based) and Japanese utility customers, as well as deployment of GVHA technologies and equipment.

  • Assist with project coordination and planning; serve as a liaison between GVHA project teams, Japanese suppliers, and customer teams.

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including daily reports, procedures, work control plans, technical documentation, customer communications, and final project reports.

  • Review technical documentation, procedures, and project submittals prepared by GVHA Engineering and project teams to ensure alignment with applicable Japanese nuclear regulatory requirements, including Japan NRA expectations and relevant JSME codes and standards, prior to customer submittal.

  • Coordinate with GVHA Engineering, Quality, and Japanese utility customers to facilitate technical document reviews, comment resolution, and customer communications related to regulatory and code compliance matters.

  • Support the preparation and review of licensing and project documentation packages for Japanese nuclear customers, including verification of technical consistency, completeness, and compliance with applicable customer and regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as a technical interface between GVHA headquarters engineering teams and Japanese customers for document clarification, technical discussions, and regulatory-related requirement communications.

  • Ensure all project team members adhere to nuclear safety, quality, and plant/regulatory requirements.

  • Work overtime and non-standard hours during outage seasons, as required.

  • Travel up to 50% to customer sites across Japan (and occasionally internationally, as needed).

  • Serve as the point of contact for all customer-related matters (technical, administrative, liaison activities, etc.).

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or related technical field) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant technical or field engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge of the Japanese nuclear industry, particularly Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) systems and Japanese nuclear regulatory processes.

  • Ability to understand and review technical documentation against applicable Japanese nuclear regulatory requirements, including Japan NRA expectations and JSME code requirements.

  • Familiarity with technical documentation associated with nuclear plant maintenance, modifications, inspections, equipment installation, and licensing support activities.

  • Ability to review engineering documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, while coordinating with engineering subject matter experts as needed.

  • Strong hands-on technical capability and a genuine interest in field-based engineering work.

  • Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English (both spoken and written) with the ability to operate effectively in technical discussions, customer meetings, and document review environments.

  • Proven ability to work independently on-site and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in team-oriented and high-pressure outage environments.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel and work at customer sites for extended periods.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to nuclear power plants.

  • Ability to meet Fitness-for-Duty requirements.

  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, as required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in nuclear power plant outage environments and/or with BWR systems.

  • Prior field service, commissioning, or technical support experience in industrial or nuclear environments.

  • Familiarity with nuclear regulations, QA standards, and industrial safety protocols.

  • Knowledge of applicable nuclear codes and standards, including JSME and ASME, with the ability to review and coordinate technical documentation submissions to Japanese utility customers and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting Japanese nuclear licensing activities and documentation reviews, including Establishment Permit (EP), Construction Permit (CP), or related regulatory submittal packages.

  • Experience interfacing with Japanese nuclear utilities, regulators, or suppliers regarding technical documentation, procedures, and compliance-related matters.

  • Understanding of Japan NRA regulatory expectations and nuclear quality assurance requirements applicable to BWR projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to support or manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and work relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an open, collaborative communication style and the ability to build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and global teams.

  • Ability to meet export control requirements.
