About the Role

As the Head of Audit, Japan you will represent Internal Audit (IA) in Japan across both the Branch and Securities Company, acting as the primary liaison with local regulators, external auditors and in-country management. You will lead audit engagements across Japan, provide independent assurance on key risks and controls, and deliver strategic insights to strengthen governance and risk management. The role also contributes to the broader Internal Audit strategy through the delivery of complex audits, stakeholder engagement and collaboration with regional and global audit teams across Asia and beyond.

What will your day look like?

As the Head of Audit, Japan you will;

  • Lead and deliver audit engagements across Japan, including planning, execution, reporting and stakeholder management.
  • Act as Internal Audit's key representative for engagement with local regulators, external auditors and senior management.
  • Provide independent assurance and constructive challenge on risk management, governance and control effectiveness.
  • Maintain strong relationships with country leadership and key stakeholders across business and support functions.
  • Support identification of emerging risks and direct audit focus towards higher-risk areas and value-adding outcomes.
  • Communicate audit findings and key messages effectively to stakeholders and management forums.
  • Lead and mentor audit teams on complex, high-profile and multi-stakeholder reviews.
  • Contribute to the execution of Internal Audit's regional and global strategy and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit teams across Asia and globally to deliver audit coverage and specialist expertise.
  • Influence stakeholders and support the implementation of sustainable risk and control improvements.
  • Provide audit oversight across a broad range of areas including product, sales, operations, risk and technology.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Extensive experience in Banking, Audit, Risk, Compliance or other assurance functions.
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese banking regulations and the local regulatory environment.
  • Experience engaging with regulators, external auditors and senior business stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead complex audits, risk reviews or assurance activities across multiple stakeholders and functions.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk management and internal control frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience leading audit or risk teams and delivering high-profile reviews.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English as this role will interact with stakeholders and regulators speaking in these languages.
  • Ability to provide strategic insight and practical recommendations on complex risk matters.
  • CPA, CA and/or relevant postgraduate qualifications preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and across global teams.
