We are seeking a talented Senior HR Generalist to join our team in Japan. The ideal candidate will have mid-career experience in HR with a focus on providing support across various HR functions. They will be fluent in Japanese and English, with proficiency in a third language preferred. This role requires a deep understanding of local labor laws and regulations in Japan, as well as the ability to work effectively on a distributed or global team.

This role is hybrid based out of Japan.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted HR partner to employees and managers, providing guidance and support on a wide range of HR-related issues, including employee relations, performance management, and career development.
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding and orientation to offboarding and exit interviews, ensuring a positive experience for all employees.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers and recruiters to support the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, and interview scheduling.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits administration, including payroll processing, employee benefits enrollment, and compliance with local regulations.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives and culture-building activities, promoting a positive work environment and a sense of belonging among all employees.
  • Drive HR projects and initiatives, such as diversity and inclusion programs, employee wellness initiatives, and performance management process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and data, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and internal policies.
  • Stay current on HR trends and best practices, and proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.

Experience:

  • Fluency in Japanese and English; proficiency in a third language preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of mid-career experience in HR, with a focus on providing support across multiple HR functions.
  • Strong understanding of local labor laws and regulations in Japan, with experience handling employee relations issues and managing compliance.
  • Experience working on a distributed or global HR team, with the ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and cultures.
  • Prior experience supporting recruitment activities, including job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
  • Knowledge of compensation and benefits administration, including payroll processing and benefits enrollment.
  • Proven ability to drive HR projects and initiatives, with a focus on promoting employee engagement and enhancing the employee experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
