Manager, Photo & Audio Visual Studio - Japan

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Photo & Audio Visual Studio (PAVS) team operates at the intersection of visual storytelling, creative production, and global Marketing strategy. We create photography and video assets that help audiences discover and connect with Netflix series, films, documentaries, and other entertainment.

At its heart, PAVS is about storytelling. We partner with teams across Marketing, Social, Publicity, Product, Content, and Production to identify the visual moments that best capture the appeal of a title—and transform those moments into assets that build anticipation, conversation, and fandom.

We are seeking a Manager to join the Japan Photo & AV Studio team. This role will lead the creative strategy and production of photography and video across a portfolio of Japanese titles, from early production through campaign launch.

The successful candidate will combine strong creative judgment with excellent production and project management skills. They will be able to understand a title, its audience, cast, and campaign goals, and translate that context into a clear visual strategy and actionable creative brief.

This role requires someone who can lead multiple complex projects simultaneously, navigate changing production circumstances, and build trusted relationships across a wide range of internal and external partners. The Manager will also contribute to the continued growth of Japan PAVS by developing creative partners, improving workflows, and identifying new ways for the team to create greater impact across the Netflix business.

The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, highly organized, and comfortable operating with autonomy. They demonstrate sound judgment, communicate clearly and candidly, and can balance creative ambition with production realities.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop photo and video strategies in close collaboration with partners across Marketing, Social, Publicity, Product, Content, and Production.
  • Understand each title’s story, audience, talent, production environment, and campaign objectives, and translate these insights into a clear visual approach.
  • Identify the photography and video assets that will create the greatest value across campaign, Social, Product, Publicity, editorial, and other channels.
  • Lead projects from initial strategy and creative development through production, post-production, approvals, delivery, and asset management.
  • Read scripts and other creative materials to identify key characters, moments, themes, and on-set opportunities.
  • Develop clear and inspiring briefs for photographers, filmmakers, creative agencies, editors, and other production partners.
  • Select, hire, brief, and supervise unit photographers, video crews, producers, editors, and other external creative partners.
  • Plan and creatively produce unit photography, gallery and editorial shoots, behind-the-scenes content, interviews, premieres, events, and other title-related productions.
  • Partner closely with production teams and talent representatives to make thoughtful use of limited talent time while meeting the creative needs of the campaign.
  • Maintain clear communication between on-set teams and key stakeholders, proactively managing changes, risks, and competing priorities.
  • Use editorial and creative judgment to uncover authentic behind-the-scenes stories and develop engaging narratives that deepen the audience’s connection to a title.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across Japan’s photography, video, creative, and production communities.
  • Expand and diversify the team’s roster of creative and production partners.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Japan PAVS by improving workflows, developing scalable best practices, and identifying new creative and operational opportunities.
  • Share knowledge and learnings that strengthen the creative and production capabilities of the wider team.

Skills and Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in entertainment, media, creative production, editorial, or a related field.
  • Experience in roles such as Creative Producer, Photo or Video Producer, Production Manager, Content Producer, or a similar position combining creative development and production execution.
  • Experience working within an entertainment studio, production company, creative agency, publisher, broadcaster, or lifestyle or editorial media organization.
  • Proven ability to independently lead multiple complex creative productions or campaigns from strategy through final delivery.
  • Strong production management skills, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, vendor selection, on-set execution, post-production, and approvals.
  • A strong creative eye and a sophisticated understanding of visual storytelling in service of audience-first communication.
  • Ability to translate stories, audience insights, talent, and campaign objectives into clear creative strategies and actionable briefs.
  • Experience directing and managing photographers, filmmakers, agencies, producers, editors, and other external partners.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to adapt thoughtfully to changing schedules, access, budgets, and production circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence and build alignment without relying on formal authority.
  • Established knowledge of—or relationships within—the photography, video, creative, and production industries in Japan.
  • Working knowledge of digital photography and video workflows, file formats, specifications, and delivery requirements.
  • Working knowledge of copyright, licensing, talent approvals, usage rights, and embargo management.
  • Professional fluency in Japanese is required. Business-level English is required.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, is helpful but not required.
