Job Summary:
The Network Engineer (WAN) within Global Connectivity Solutions (GCS) supports vulnerability remediation, software lifecycle management, firmware upgrades, and production change execution across enterprise WAN infrastructure. The role performs technical implementation, validation, troubleshooting, and documentation activities involving Cisco routing and switching, Versa SD-WAN, WAN links, and related connectivity platforms.
The position works with Senior Engineers, Network Engineering, Network Operations, Information Security, Change Management, Outage Management, vendors, carriers, and service providers to execute remediation and upgrade activities safely and maintain compliance with approved software and operational standards.
Job Description
- Support vulnerability remediation activities across Versa SD-WAN, Cisco routing and switching, and WAN connectivity platforms.
- Execute approved software and firmware upgrades on Cisco ISR and ASR routers, Catalyst platforms supporting WAN connectivity, Versa SD-WAN controllers, branch edge devices, and supporting infrastructure.
- Review and implement assigned remediation actions arising from vendor security advisories, software recommendations, defects, and EOS/EOL notices.
- Support software lifecycle management and platform currency for Cisco routing and switching platforms and Versa SD-WAN infrastructure.
- Perform pre-upgrade validation, compatibility checks, configuration reviews, software image verification, post-upgrade validation, and health checks.
- Prepare and maintain implementation procedures, rollback steps, validation plans, technical assessments, change tasks, and deployment records.
- Participate in CAB preparation and support Senior Engineers during technical change reviews when required.
- Execute approved remediation activities, platform upgrades, configuration updates, and network changes within planned maintenance windows.
- Troubleshoot Versa SD-WAN overlays, underlay connectivity, routing protocols, enterprise routing infrastructure, and WAN link issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving BGP, OSPF, route policies, WAN failover, VPN connectivity, QoS, traffic steering, and application forwarding policies.
- Support troubleshooting of ISP circuits, branch connectivity, SD-WAN fabric health, cloud connectivity, and data center interconnects.
- Work with vendors, carriers, service providers, and internal teams to restore service and resolve technical issues.
- Participate in outage calls, incident recovery, impact assessment, issue investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution validation.
- Support Problem Management by providing technical analysis, logs, command outputs, trends, and troubleshooting evidence.
- Support remediation waves, upgrade deployments, technology refreshes, and WAN modernization initiatives.
- Participate in testing, implementation, stabilization, and post-deployment validation activities.
- Maintain operational runbooks, remediation documentation, software compliance records, upgrade history, and implementation outcomes.
- Provide accurate progress updates and promptly escalate technical risks, blockers, failed validations, and dependencies.
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, compliance validation, monitoring, and operational improvement.
Knowledge & Competencies Required:
- Working knowledge of Versa SD-WAN, including Versa Director and Analytics, overlays, underlay connectivity, traffic steering, and branch edge operations.
- Hands-on knowledge of Cisco routing technologies, including ISR and ASR platforms, and switching platforms supporting WAN connectivity.
- Understanding of BGP, OSPF, IP addressing, route selection, redundancy, VPN services, QoS, and WAN failover.
- Ability to troubleshoot WAN links, ISP circuits, branch connectivity, SD-WAN fabric health, cloud connectivity, and data center interconnects.
- Experience supporting network firmware upgrades, vulnerability remediation, configuration changes, and lifecycle activities.
- Strong troubleshooting discipline, including collection and interpretation of logs, command outputs, alerts, and monitoring data.
- Working knowledge of Change, Incident, Problem, Risk, and Release Management practices.
- Ability to follow implementation procedures, complete validation accurately, and escalate unexpected conditions appropriately.
- Good technical documentation, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Knowledge of network monitoring, observability, analytics, and automation platforms.
- Basic scripting or automation knowledge using APIs, Python, Ansible, or related tools is desirable.
- Strong ownership, attention to detail, compliance focus, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Willingness to work in a global support model, including rotational shifts and support across multiple time zones.
- Flexibility to support maintenance, deployments, upgrades, remediation, and incident recovery outside regular business hours when required.
- Ready to travel when required and collaborate with globally distributed teams, vendors, carriers, and service providers.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in enterprise WAN network engineering, SD-WAN, routing and switching, or related network technology support.
Certification Requirements:
- CCNA preferred. Versa Associate certification and ITIL v4 Foundation are value adds.
