The Senior Accountant, Japan Finance supports accurate financial reporting, reliable accounting operations, and finance transformation in Japan in accordance with Entrust Accounting Policy, Japanese GAAP, U.S. GAAP, and applicable Japanese tax requirements. The role has primary responsibility for General Ledger and financial close activities, while providing cross-functional support for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, customer invoicing, Fixed Assets, inventory accounting, financial planning and analysis, and related finance projects. The successful candidate will combine hands-on accounting execution with process improvement, automation, and system implementation activities. As a trusted partner to the Japan Financial Controller, this position will strengthen financial controls, improve operational efficiency, and help build scalable finance processes that support future organizational growth.

Job description:

General Ledger, Financial Close, and Reporting (35%)

  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, reserves, prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain General Ledger accounts, perform intercompany balance reconciliations, and support balance sheet and income statement analysis, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A activities.
  • Assist with internal control compliance activities and parent company reporting requirements.

Inventory Management (20%)

  • Support inventory accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting activities.
  • Monitor inventory balances and assist with inventory-related month-end closing processes and journal entries.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Logistics teams to ensure accurate inventory records and appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Support inventory audits and physical count processes as necessary.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Invoicing, and Fixed Assets (15%)

  • Provide cross-functional support for Accounts Payable, including invoice processing, payments, vendor reconciliations, employee expenses, and issue resolution.
  • Support Accounts Receivable, customer invoicing, cash application, credit-related processes, reconciliations, and related issue resolution.
  • Support fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, transfers, disposals, reconciliations, physical counts, and fixed asset tax declarations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and Japanese statutory requirements in these areas.

Compliance and Statutory Requirements (15%)

  • Support Japanese statutory accounting, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the Japanese Qualified Invoice System and the Electronic Books Preservation Act.
  • Liaise with external tax advisors and government authorities as required.

Process Improvement and Finance Transformation (15%)

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual activities.
  • Lead or participate in finance transformation, automation, and system enhancement projects across AP, AR, GL, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Treasury, and Expense Management, from requirements identification and process design through testing, implementation, and post-implementation stabilization.
  • Support implementation and optimization of finance applications and digital solutions, including process documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Undertake other accounting, reporting, compliance, and finance transformation responsibilities assigned by the supervisor in response to changing business priorities.

Essential skills and knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Bookkeeping Level 2 (Nissho Boki 2nd Grade), an equivalent qualification, or demonstrably equivalent accounting knowledge is also required.
  • Native-level Japanese and business-level English, including written and verbal communication skills sufficient to work with local and global stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience in General Ledger accounting and financial close, with familiarity supporting Accounts Payable and Fixed Asset Accounting. The candidate must be able to independently prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations, investigate variances, resolve accounting issues, and complete assigned close activities within established deadlines.
  • Experience in a multinational corporation or international business environment, with practical knowledge of Japanese accounting, tax, audit, statutory reporting, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of financial accounting principles, month-end close processes, journal entries, account reconciliations, accrual accounting, fixed asset accounting, inventory accounting, balance sheet management, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Practical experience with ERP systems and financial applications, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and the ability to use Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot effectively for documentation, analysis, communication, and process improvement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, stakeholder management, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, strong attention to detail, high level of accuracy, self-motivation, ability to work independently, and willingness to balance operational responsibilities with strategic improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with Oracle E-Business Suite (Oracle EBS), Kyriba, Bill One, e-Tax, and Concur Expense.
  • Experience with finance process automation, workflow digitization, system implementation projects, Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, or similar digital productivity tools.
  • Experience supporting treasury, cash management, FP&A activities, process improvement, or finance transformation initiatives.
  • Japanese CPA, U.S. CPA, or another relevant professional accounting qualification is preferred.
