The role
As a Site Engineer, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. This is an exciting new position for a highly experienced candidate who is capable of performing complex mechanical and installation activities for our current contracts. Making an impact from the outset, the successful candidate will be joining an exciting, new Babcock business in the Republic of Korea, with significant growth ambitions.


Babcock prioritises Safety above all else and in this esteemed role you will promote its best of class safety culture to ensure all employees and visitors return ‘home safe, every day’. You will support the installation and setting to work of Defence equipment (mechanical / hydraulic / pneumatic) onboard submarines, with your expertise further extending to performing mechanical assembly and testing of Defence Equipment. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to leading the day-to-day operations of the production team and workshop, ensuring the optimal utilisation of resources, personnel, and equipment to consistently meet production demands.

    Day-to-day you will:

    • Complete installation and setting to work activities for the project team in challenging environments.
    • Provide leadership and direction to members of the team, acting as a motivational influence.
    • Champion a "best-in-class" safety culture ensuring that all site HSE policies and procedures are adhered to.
    • Follow inspection plans and being responsible for inspection stamp holder, to ensure and retain traceability throughout the build process.
    • Identify any issues and escalating these where appropriate.
    • Complete shop order/job cards and test specifications concisely and accurately.
    • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with a diverse range of stakeholders including:
      • The Babcock Design Team and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) specialists in the United Kingdom
      • Quality Assurance (both Corporate and Project based)
      • Supply Chain Personnel (local and United Kingdom suppliers)
      • Shipbuilders: Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI)
      • Equipment Subject Matter Experts

    This role is full time, Monday to Friday 09:00 – 18:00, and will be based at our site in Saha-gu, Busan. On occasion you may be required to work additional hours for operational purposes.

    Essential experience of the Site Engineer

    • Significant, relevant experience gained in the Defence industry or a similar field.
    • A strong working knowledge of mechanical / hydraulic / pneumatic equipment, and the ability to provide diagnostics.
    • A proven track record of managing and championing Health and Safety within your own and wider teams.
    • Experienced in managing a team and providing clear and concise instructions.
    • Proficient IT skills (including Microsoft Office).
    • Excellent written and verbal skills in both Korean and English language.

    Qualifications for the Site Engineer

    • Preferred candidates will be suitably qualified (Degree, Apprenticeship or equivalent).
    • Hold Health and Safety training and qualifications applicable to the Republic of Korea.
    • Possess a certificate of English language ability (e.g., TOEIC, TOEFL, OPIC).
    • Be able to perform manual lifting and handling within defined safety limits applicable to the Republic of Korea.
    • A higly motivated Problem Solver, with a flexible and willing attitude.

    Security

    The successful candidate must have the ability to achieve and maintain the appropriate level of Security Clearance required for this position and the Korean Ministry of National Defence (MND). Further information will be provided at interview.
