The Arene Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Team is a sub-team of Arene Engineering Platform, whose mission is to define, develop, and evangelize sound operational processes and tooling to ensure system stability, observability, and compliance with organizational standards to enable service owners to operate their services. We define the change management process for Arene products, assist teams with aligning to operational standards, and build tooling to empower developers to deploy and manage services at scale. We practice a culture of continuous improvement and blameless postmortems.
As a member of the Arene SRE team, you will create tools and processes to simplify operations and bring visibility into anomalies and service degradations. You will work across teams in various domains and embed with teams when necessary. We support services deployed across AWS, GCP, on premise data centers. Some of the tools we use include Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, Terraform, GCP Logging and Wavefront. You will report to the SRE Manager. This role's workplace onsite in Japan, working in the office at least 3 days per week.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FORYou are an engineer who is passionate about operational excellence and automation. You have broad knowledge across SRE domains, solid coding skills, Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor operational health of services across Arene and triage incidents
  • Work with our automotive and cloud software teams to improve the operational experience and system reliability
  • Assist teams in defining service level Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and on call procedures
  • Design, implement, and maintain tools related to Observability, Incident Management, and Deployments
  • Promote operational best practices to teams across Arene

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of Software development experience in one or more languages (Python, Golang, Java, or similar)
  • Strong Unix skills to include familiarity with operating system fundamentals and scripting such as Bash
  • Experience with cloud-based software solutions and containerization (ex. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Can codify infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Iac) (ex. Terraform, AWS Cloudformation)
  • Relevant professional experience in build tools and automation in C/CDI (ex. Github Actions, Gitlab CI, Jenkins, Buildkite)
  • Knowledge of observability tools and best practices for large, distributed systems (ex. GCP Logging, Prometheus, Wavefront, Datadog, Pagerduty)

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience communicating and explaining SRE concepts, educating other engineers, and incident response
  • At least 3 years of experience in an SRE role
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex distributed systems
  • Experience writing custom SRE tooling
  • Can write custom Terraform modules and providers when needed
  • Experience architecting, deploying, and operating solutions on AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Knowledge or experience with safety (ISO 26262, ISO 21448, IEC 61508) and security (ISO 21434) standards
