The Amazon JP Pricing & Promotions team builds the systems that power how selling partners fund, source, price, and measure promotions for millions of Japanese customers. We are part of Japan Store Tech, a global software development group. We are seeking a talented, passionate junior Software Development Engineer to join us and grow into building feature innovations that improve the shopping and selling
experience in Japan. We are transforming a fragmented set of promotion tools into an unified, intelligent, and automated platform, and there is a lot to learn and build.
What we do
We work across four connected areas:
- Selling Partner Tooling — the tools selling partners use to plan campaigns, enroll in promotional programs, and understand how their promotions perform.
- Incentives Sourcing — the services that create the many kinds of loyalty and points-based incentives offered to Japanese customers, unifying systems that were built independently over the years.
- Pricing — the Japan-specific pricing logic behind every offer, including points valuation, competitor matching, and regulatory compliance.
- Intelligence — a shared layer that turns campaign, pricing, and customer data into recommendations and automation across everything above.
The common thread is one idea: unified interfaces, shared execution, and centralized
intelligence. We are replacing disconnected tools and manual work with self-service experiences and data-driven automation.
At Amazon, you'll work alongside the latest AI and GenAI tools that are increasingly woven into how teams operate: from AI-powered capabilities that accelerate decision-making, to Generative AI that helps you focus on work that truly matters. You'll have opportunities and resources to develop AI fluency at your own pace, with continuous learning built into the culture.
Key job responsibilities
•Contribute to customer-facing features for our mobile app – discovery surfaces, the personal library, search and browse, and the reading experience – with guidance and code review from experienced engineers.
•Write clean, well-tested code, learning to build for performance, reliability, and maintainability on experiences customers open every day.
•Use AI-powered development tools across your day-to-day work, including code generation, test authoring, review, debugging, and documentation. We build with modern AI-assisted tooling.
•Participate in design discussions and code reviews, and contribute to technical documentation.
•Partner with backend engineers to integrate your features with our services and data flows.
•Collaborate with cross-functional, geographically diverse teams (PM, UX, backend, and partner tech teams) through design, delivery, and support.
•Help maintain operational excellence: fixing bugs, improving observability, keeping CI/CD healthy, and taking part in on-call responsibilities as you ramp.
A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges alongside a team of experienced engineers. You will contribute to the design and development of scalable, reliable distributed services, help translate business and functional requirements into working software, and build prototypes and proofs of concept. You will write, test, and ship code that reaches selling partners and internal teams, and you will learn how large systems are designed and operated at scale.
Because our platform connects to pricing, promotion, and loyalty systems across Amazon, you will have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams in
different locations. You will be supported by mentorship, code reviews, and a team that invests in your growth. We work in an AI-native way — reusable development tooling, shared knowledge resources, and automation are part of how we build every day, and you'll pick these up as you go.
You should be curious, eager to learn, and comfortable working through problems that don't always have a clear answer up front. You will grow your ability to take ownership, navigate ambiguity, and make an impact on millions of customers and the
partners who serve them.
If you are excited to learn quickly, solve meaningful problems, and build features that customers and selling partners will love to use, we want to hear from you.
