STARLINK COUNTRY GROWTH DIRECTOR (JAPAN)
As the Starlink Country Growth Director, known internally as a Business Development Director, youwill lead the strategy and execution forconsumerrevenue growth and market penetration for Starlink's satellite broadband networkwithin Japan. This role plays a pivotal part in SpaceX's mission to provide high-speed connectivity throughout Japan, enabling underserved populations to access reliable internet for education, work, and entertainment. You will overseeacross-functional team in a fast-paced, innovative environment, collaborating with product, engineering, and marketing to scale consumer adoption while navigating competitive and regulatory landscapes across Japan.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement comprehensive go-to-market strategies for consumer broadband services in Japan, including pricing, bundling, and promotional campaigns to maximize subscriber acquisition and retention
- Take full ownership of consumer growth outcomes, including high growth rates(~10% week over week growth) in Japan, cost optimization, forecasting demand, and supply chain coordination
- Analyze consumer market trends, competitive intelligence, and user feedback to refine product offerings and enhance the end-to-end customer experience from onboarding to support
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware (e.g., user terminals) and software features that meet consumer needs for speed, reliability, and affordability across Japan
- Drive growth initiatives, such as partnerships to broaden distribution channels and accelerate consumer adoption, marketing and advertising efforts, and integration of government subsidy programs in Japan
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related analytical field
- 10+ years of experience within telecommunications, broadband, consumer products, or technical industriesin Japan
- Fluency in both spoken and written English and Japanese is essential for this role, as the position involves regular communication and coordination with both our US and Japan based business operations, clients, partners and stakeholders
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of direct people leadership experience in a consumer-facing business
- 15+ years of experience within telecommunications, broadband, consumer products, or technical industriesin Japan
- Experience working with Japanese retailers in the consumer electronics arena
- Experience and success selling both consumer electronics products and subscription services at high growth rates
- Direct e-commerce, direct retail, and partnership experience all desired
Experience with various modes of advertising (billboards, television commercials, flyers, etc.) - Demonstrated success in consumer sales and product development in Japan, including consumer product sales to expand reach and adoption in rural and underserved areas, as well as marketing/advertising campaigns tailored for Japanese cultural and linguistic context
- Expertise in data analytics for consumer insights and performance optimization
- Leadership experience in fast-paced, startup-like cultures with a focus on innovation and cross-functional collaboration
- Familiarity with supply chain management for consumer hardware and Japan logistics
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel,up 50%+ of timewithin Japan and across APAC as needed
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
