- Debt Capital Markets (DCM) is part of the Capital Markets (CM) group consists of Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Strategic Equity & Financing (SEF), Leveraged & Acquisition Finance (LAF), Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS), Strategic Solutions Group (SSG) and Issuer Services (ISV).
- The Capital Markets group is in turn, part of the broader Capital Markets & Advisory (CM&A) construct at HSBC.
- To take active responsibility for ensuring effective governance structures and processes are in place across the relevant CM products by developing a detailed understanding of critical issues across products and countries, working in partnership with support functions, chief of staff and CIB senior management and the wider group.
- Providing leadership in idea-generation, client coverage and a solutions-led approach to Corp / SSA / FIG clients in Japan
Principal Accountabilities
Impact on the Business/Function
- Proactively engage with Capital Markets leadership team to work with Japan CIB and broader DCM regional team other to deliver the revenue and league table targets and further develop the HSBC franchise
- Origination and execution of DCM business with Japan CIB clients
- Liaisons with relevant regulators, as appropriate
- Liaisons with relevant internal stakeholders, as appropriate
- Compliant with HSBC regulatory requirements, operational standards and values
Customers / Stakeholders
- Drive the continued growth of Debt Financing through the execution of DCM strategy
- Engage with stakeholders across CIB to translate the bank’s strategy into effective global execution and implementation plans
- Engage various stakeholders including risk, compliance, legal and others as required to mobilise the execution strategy and implementation plans
- Ensure effective governance structures are in place to enable oversight, control and monitoring of strategy execution and implementation plans (change governance)
- Provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues facing DCM
- Support new business origination and client coverage to deepen and develop
- relationships.
- Proactively support and steer key cross product / business collaboration initiatives and other product teams to ensure the firm maximises opportunities
Leadership & Teamwork
- Team leadership and management of direct reports, including effective performance management, talent management and succession planning (where applicable)
- Drive the development and implementation of HR initiatives to promote career
- development, facilitate effective talent management and manage hiring requirements across DCM. Actively engage in the CIB hiring approvals process and drive the people strategy across the region:
- Provide leadership across DCM, driving the Business agenda, people agenda and role modelling the HSBC values
- Represent CM externally with clients, regulators and other third parties as required
- Foster good working relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure a well
- informed global perspective on critical issues and best practice
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across Capital
- Markets to ensure good operational, financial and project management and
- compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution of issues that arise.
- Drive the definition and embedding of the bank’s policy and governance frameworks across all business lines to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications (Key requirements for the role)
- DCM experience of over years, including Japan
- Excellent communication skills and a track record of client coverage in the Japanese SSA & Corporate sector
- Ability to solve problems and think laterally and strategically around challenging situations and evolving market themes
- Deep corporate finance / credit analytical skills
