DePuy Synthes is recruiting for an APAC Occupational Health Lead, located in Tokyo, Japan.
The APAC Occupational Health Lead is responsible for leading occupational health strategy, programs, and services for DePuy Synthes in Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore, while providing regional oversight. This role ensures employee health, safety, and well‑being through compliant, high‑quality occupational health practices aligned with global standards and local regulatory requirements. The position plays a critical role in supporting workforce safety, risk management, and business continuity in a regulated manufacturing and corporate environment, while serving as a trusted advisor to site and regional leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and implement the APAC occupational health strategy, programs and services in alignment with global standards and local regulatory requirements.
Oversee and manage occupational health vendor and healthcare provider relationships and contracts, ensuring high-quality service delivery, consistency, and cost-effectiveness.
Provide subject‑matter expertise and guidance on occupational health and well-being programs, policies, and practices.
Partner with EHS, FM (E&PS), HR, and business leaders to identify, assess and mitigate workplace health risks.
Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation, medical surveillance, psychosocial risk assessments, reporting, and documentation requirements across the region.
Support injury and illness management, return‑to‑work, and workplace accommodation programs.
Analyze occupational health data and trends to inform prevention strategies and continuous improvement.
Contribute to regional and global initiatives related to employee health, well‑being, and prevention.
Serve on local/regional Crisis Management Teams.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Occupational Health, Public Health, or a related field is required.
Professional qualification or additional training in Occupational Health, Public Health, or a related discipline (preferred)
Experience and Skills:
Required:
Typically 6-8 years of experience in occupational health, employee health, or related roles.
Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating occupational health programs at site or country level.
Strong knowledge of occupational health regulations and best practices in Japan and APAC.
Ability to partner effectively with HR, EHS, FM (E&PS), and business leaders in a matrixed organization.
Strong analytical, risk assessment, and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred:
Experience supporting occupational health in manufacturing or regulated environments.
Familiarity with global or regional occupational health operating models.
Experience managing external occupational health vendors.
Exposure to healthcare, medical device, or life sciences industries.
Experience supporting change initiatives or program harmonization.
Other:
Languages: Japanese and English proficiency are required.
Travel: Up to 10–20% domestic or regional travel.
Certifications: Occupational Health Nurse or equivalent certification is preferred.
