The Applications Engineer is a key technical interface to our customers, working in cooperation with Sales, and taking the lead driving towards the best solution, considering both hardware and software at the device level. The goal is to bring the product to development, utilizing strong technical, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. UEI is a global lead in the design and manufacture of remote controls, sensors, and software and chipsets that detect and determine how to control devices. You will work internally with software teams, product management, Sales, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, and other teams to define the product before the start of development. We are looking for a self-starting individual who is a strong communicator, an energetic contributor and a person who is assertive and clever enough to guide customers to win-win solutions for both parties.

Responsibilities

  • Define product requirements (RFQ/Proposals) based on discussions with the customer
  • Create and maintain product specification summarizing engineering product requirements, software, electrical & mechanical needs
  • Explain performance/cost tradeoffs of various approaches
  • Gather members of UEI engineering team to discuss engineering approaches and tradeoffs
  • Drive progress on design, feasibility, and cost information
  • Lead unit cost and NRE estimations, and inform Sales
  • Discuss software product details with contract manufacturers based in China
  • Determine feasibility of integrating UEI software into customer product ecosystem
  • Support the Sales team as the lead engineering expert in key high-volume customer meetings
  • Manage status in online integrated cloud-based project management tool

Qualifications

  • Hardware and software experience
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and project coordination skills
  • Strong ability to drive progress and ensure deliverables are not missed
  • Knowledge and passion for consumer devices
  • Fluent Japanese and strong English language ability
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to customer sites.
  • RF technologies, especially Bluetooth / RF4CE / Zigbee
  • Voice, audio, microphones, audio compression
  • C and Linux experience, have written code on some level
  • HDMI CEC/EDID interfaces
  • Worked on one or more of these product types: IPTV / OTT / STB / IoT / TV / HVAC

Education

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in compliance & ethics, business administration, communications, or related field.

  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time; Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, etc.
  • Travel domestic or international as needed.
