We are seeking an experienced Renewables Developer who understands development in Japan with a track record of successfully taking projects to RTB.

Your new Company:
A Successful International Developer and Independent Power Producer (IPP) with Utility Scale Solar and BESS projects, established in Japan over a decade ago, now owned by a global private equity fund giving them significant access to new funding. They have ambitious business expansion plans across Asia focusing on the Japan business with a branch in Taiwan and South Korea.
Your new role:
Reporting to senior management and leading a team of Developers you will develop ground mounted Solar projects from scratch. You will negotiate with landlords, obtaining neighbours’ consents, and local, prefectural, and national permits and approvals for HV and SHV projects across the country. You will be responsible for:
- Manage site feasibility studies such as red flags, including resource assessments, environmental impact analyses, and grid connection studies in consultation with subcontractors.
- Oversee detailed project proposals and development plans and schedule.
- Landlord negotiation. Develop strategy to convince the landowner to sell or lease the land with the desired conditions.
- Support junior developers with community engagement. Explain the project to the neighbours (including local associations) and obtain their consent to construct a solar plant.
- Permitting approval. Oversee meetings with the local authorities to get the necessary approval to construct the project.
- Collaborate with landlords, local authorities, and utility companies to secure project buy-in.
- Source and manage relationships with suitable partners for the project in development process and manage their tasks such as topographic and boundary surveys, FDP, EIA, or other permits.
- Develop and manage project budgets, including cost estimates and financial models.
- Collaborate with Tech team to ensure the technical feasibility and successful implementation of solar projects.
Who you are:
10 to 15 years’ experience with renewable energy project development with a focus on solar and/or projects preferred, Wind experience also considered. You will have familiarity with permitting processes, environmental assessments, grid interconnection and METI process. You will also have:
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously following the development schedule.
- Proficiency in financial modelling and analysis.
- Negotiation skills with locals including landowners and government officials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication and people skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
- Japanese native level. English skill is highly appreciated.
- Driver’s license
