About the Role

In this position, you will be a mechanical technical lead of loudspeakers for new/existing Japanese customer programs, and work with the global engineering development team in Harman to maintain the commonality of loudspeaker designs across multiple customers.


Your Team

This position will have direct report to manager of SPK SME-Japan team who is technical interface with all J-OEM’s.
What You Will Do

  • Lead and support loudspeaker development on assigned New Product Development projects, through the design team in Suzhou, China or in Novi, MI.
  • Be the main customer interface, and technical expert for loudspeaker related issues.
  • Focus on cost, efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement as part of the loudspeaker development.
  • Lead and support the global mechanical engineering team to design and validate loudspeakers to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Lead and support and in some instances lead loudspeaker design-related problem-solving on a multitude of programs and projects.
  • Provide technical support on acoustic performance, measurements, durability, packaging design and cost at design and feasibility reviews.
  • Support and review all relevant documentation such as Bills of Material, both Harman and customer drawings, Simulation data, DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP&R, and all other documentation required to support the development process and customer requirements.
  • Actively participate in the development of loudspeaker designs about all external and internal requirements during the RFQ / RFI stage.
  • Lead and support the loudspeaker development team during the interaction with the customer on loudspeaker-related topics.
  • Analysis of technical specifications and lead technical negotiations with customer.
  • Use, maintain, and improve upon Best Practices and Design Standards in the knowledge Management system via the Lessons Learned process.
  • Verify Projects Systems database with accurate loudspeaker information for multiple projects.

What You Need

  • Approximately 7+ years of customer-facing or design engineering experience or equivalent with a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical and mechanical products and technologies including knowledge of the target customer specific PDM (Product Data Management), PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), and databases and experience with mechanical CAD.
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks related to supporting product development, testing, and release.
  • Experience problem solving complex mechanical technical issues with electronics products being integrated into vehicles.
  • Skill with communicating and coordinating complex technical concepts both with internal and external stakeholders.

What is Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Prior experience as a customer-facing engineer, application engineer, or design engineer for automotive electronics products.
  • Direct experience with applicable customer.

  • Successfully complete a background investigation/Aptitude Test as a condition of employment.
  • This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than 4 active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
