Contract Type: Independent Contractor (Quasi-Mandate Agreement)
Working Style: Daytime support during RMI/RSI business days, with off-hours work (including nights, weekends, and holidays) only upon explicit instruction from RMI/RSI via email, message, or other clear communication.
2. Mission
To ensure the stability, availability, and performance of a Kubernetes-based cloud-native infrastructure by performing end-to-end operations across hardware and virtual platform layers, including deployment and lifecycle management activities.
3. Key Deliverables & Responsibilities
3.1 Infrastructure Operations (Triggered Execution)
- Perform hardware and infrastructure operations based on incidents, tickets, requests, or instructions raised by RMI/RSI
- Troubleshoot and support resolution of issues related to servers, storage, and network infrastructure
- Support recovery and restoration activities during incidents

- Incident handling records
- Infrastructure operation reports
3.2 Platform / Kubernetes Operations
- Perform Kubernetes cluster operations based on incidents or operational requests
- Troubleshoot node, pod, and cluster-level issues
- Support container-based infrastructure operations and platform stability

- Platform operation reports
- Troubleshooting records
3.3 Deployment, Maintenance & Change Support
- Execute deployment activities for infrastructure and platform components in coordination with relevant teams
- Execute planned maintenance, patching, and upgrade activities for the infrastructure platform
- Support lifecycle management of hardware and platform components, including software releases and version upgrades
- Participate in rollout, validation, and rollback activities during deployment and upgrade operations

3.4 Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate with platform and hardware vendors for issue investigation and resolution
- Follow up on bug fixes, patches, and hardware-related escalations
3.5 Coordination with Application Teams
- Coordinate closely with telecom application teams (including but not limited to 5GC, EPC, and IMS domains) for incident resolution, deployment activities, and maintenance operations
- Support joint troubleshooting across infrastructure and application layers
- Ensure effective communication and alignment during service-impacting events
3.6 Reporting (Contract Compliance)
- Timesheet submission (mandatory), which will be used as the basis for effort-based invoicing under the quasi-mandate contract model
4. Scope Definition (Important)
- Monitoring and alert detection activities are out of scope
- Physical on-site activities at data center facilities (e.g., racking, cabling, hardware replacement) are out of scope
- Operations are performed based on incidents, tickets, or explicit instructions provided by RMI/RSI
- This role focuses on infrastructure and platform operations and excludes application-level troubleshooting of telecom network functions
- Deployment and upgrade activities for infrastructure and platform layers are included; however, application-level deployment is out of scope
- Close coordination with telecom application teams is required; however, application-level responsibilities remain out of scope
5. Required Qualifications
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in telecommunications or IT infrastructure operations
- Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure or cloud platform operations
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience in Kubernetes platform operations
- Experience with container-based infrastructure environments
- Experience in bare metal server operations and hardware troubleshooting (remote)
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, VM environments)
- Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills
Additional Skills
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, routing, basic BGP concepts)
- Experience in vendor coordination and escalation management
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in telecommunications environments, particularly in packet core networks (4G EPC / 5GC) and cloud-native telecom infrastructure
- Relevant certifications are preferred (e.g., Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), Linux system administration, or cloud-native platform certifications)
Language & Soft Skills
- Fluent in English, capable of working with global teams and vendors
- Ability to operate calmly and effectively in high-pressure incident situations
6. Workload & Operational Scale
The service scope is based on daytime support during RMI/RSI business days, with a dedicated team of 3 personnel.
Required Staffing:
3 personnel with the following allocation:
Shift / On-call Definition:
- On-site support during RMI/RSI business day daytime hours
- Off-hours work only upon explicit instruction from RMI/RSI for urgent or critical activites
7. Environment & Constraints
Work Location:
Onsite: RMI Office (Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan)
Offshore: Rakuten Symphony India (RSI) Office (Indore, MP, India)
Access & Security:
- RMI provides laptops, office access, required credentials, and system access for operations
Tooling:
- Kubernetes-based infrastructure platform tools
- Symworld, RadCom, and other RMI operational tools
- Vendor support portals (platform and hardware vendors)
8. Governance & Reporting
Reporting Cadence:
- Weekly technical updates
- Monthly governance reporting
OJT Scope:
- Collaboration with internal teams to ensure operational continuity
- Knowledge sharing related to infrastructure and platform operations
