Senior Software Engineer, Search AI/ML

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Kotlin or Java).
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  
• 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 2 years of experience with AI/Machine Learning, or 3 years with a PhD degree in Computer Science or Machine Learning.
• 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  
• 1 year of experience with applications of LLMs.

Our team is responsible for LLM applications on Google Search. We extensively work on prompting LLMs, utilizing search inputs and signals, building ML models, establishing and executing quality evaluations, running and analyzing experiments, and building/verifying product hypotheses for bringing the best quality to Google Search users.

Responsibilities

• Identify and address search quality problems by observing experiment data and discussing with stakeholders.
• Build technical solutions by utilizing large-scale data and building ML models, working on a large-scale backend code stack.
• Evaluate and launch improvements by establishing and executing quality evaluations, running and analyzing experiments, and assessing user value with data points.
• Work as a member of the cross-organizational virtual team across different locations and roles.
