You will be required to meet a high level of sustainability expectations, which is a significant aspect of Novo Nordisk's business. Additionally, you will be expected to lead the team in developing new activities.

The position
As the leader of the Sustainability team within Public Affairs & Sustainability (PAS), you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of ensuring that sustainability strategy becomes deeply ingrained in Novo Nordisk (NN) Japan's business operations. With a strategic approach, spearhead NN Japan's sustainability projects, strategically positioning our company as a pivotal partner in addressing environmental and social challenges. By orchestrating our efforts, we aim to not only meet but exceed sustainability goals, solidifying NN Japan's commitment to a brighter, more sustainable future for all stakeholders.
Other role tasks are as follows:

  • Lead NN Japan 's Sustainability team, creating strategic plans aligned with corporate goals and ensuring effective implementation by creating mid-term and annual overall strategic plans for NN Japan’s Sustainability activities, working with the head of the PAS team and senior management to ensure that this meets corporate expectations and business needs, and managing the two other members of the Sustainability team to ensure effective implementation of the strategic plan in the areas such as environment and prevention as well as navigate them to develop their leadership and competency to be strategic.
  • Embed sustainability strategy within NN Japan's business by engaging with executive management, promoting cross-functional collaboration, and fostering internal communication. Engage with the NN Japan Executive Management Team members to ensure the Sustainability team’s strategy is well embedded in NN Japan business strategy and NN Japan sustainability projects meet their ambition level.
  • Promote NN Japan sustainability activities internally through cross functional collaboration and internal communication.
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs to address policy issues and ensure recognition from political stakeholders for sustainability initiatives.
  • Supervise initiatives like the Chiba Obesity Partnership and Cities Changing Diabetes projects, focusing on creativity, ambition, and impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proficiency in strategy planning is mandatory.
  • Excellent written and spoken Japanese skills; proficient in written and verbal English skills are both required.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and corporate environmental/CSR activities preferred.
  • People management skills are preferred.
