OUR IMPACT
Tax Operations supports the firm’s compliance with tax laws and reporting obligations by evaluating tax consequences and reputational risks across business activities and transactions. The Tokyo Tax Analytics & Control team oversees APAC operational tax matters, with primary responsibility for
Japan withholding tax and Hong Kong stamp duty. The team delivers accurate daily reconciliations, payments, documentation and regulatory filings, assesses regulatory and business change, and builds scalable, well-controlled processes through data analytics.
YOUR IMPACT
We are seeking a Vice President to manage the Japan withholding tax function in Tokyo, followed by additional oversight across other APAC tax obligations the team is responsible for, including Hong Kong stamp duty. The successful candidate will combine deep subject matter expertise in related withholding and transaction tax regimes with strong operational risk management, regulatory change and technology delivery capabilities to strengthen execution and resilience across related APAC processes while advancing automation and the team’s target operating model. The role combines people management, risk and control oversight, regulatory change delivery, stakeholder partnership and process transformation, and is suited to an experienced operations professional able to learn and apply relevant requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Own APAC withholding tax and related transaction tax operational oversight, with primary focus on Japan withholding tax and broader
coverage across obligations such as Hong Kong stamp duty.
Oversee accurate and timely tax determination, reconciliations, reporting, remittance, documentation and exception management, with clear
ownership, evidence and escalation.
Identify, assess and remediate operational, regulatory and control risks, including matters identified through management review, Internal
Audit or other assurance activity.
Lead regulatory, market and business change implementation by defining requirements and coordinating updates across processes,
controls, data and technology.
Partner with Engineering to enhance strategic tax tooling, improve workflow design, strengthen data quality and increase automation,
auditability and scalability.
Maintain robust governance, procedures, risk assessments, control documentation, management information and evidence supporting
internal and external review.
Partner across Tax, Operations, Corporate Tax, Engineering, business teams and trading desks to translate requirements, coordinate
delivery and resolve complex operational tax matters.
Build team resilience through colleague development, maker-checker coverage, cross-training, knowledge transfer and reduced key-person
dependency.
Coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries, audits, control reviews and remediation commitments, ensuring clear communication of
technical and operational matters.
HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL
Build credibility as a senior owner by combining operational discipline, sound judgment, clear escalation and practical application of relevant
tax requirements.
Lead through ambiguity by translating complex regulatory, business and infrastructure changes into clear execution plans and sustainable
operating outcomes.
Influence cross-functional stakeholders across regions by communicating clearly, balancing risk and commercial considerations, and driving
alignment on complex matters.
Develop leadership depth by coaching colleagues, delegating effectively, building coverage and creating an accountable, collaborative team
environment.
Shape the future operating model by using data, root-cause analysis and technology to simplify processes, reduce manual intervention and
strengthen control design.
Grow as a trusted advisor by developing subject-matter knowledge, connecting it to operational execution and explaining technical topics in
a clear, accessible way.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Significant progressive experience in operational function, with demonstrated leadership and people-management experience.
Strong operational management background covering delivery oversight, risk and controls, process governance, issue management and
continuous improvement; prior tax operations experience is helpful but not essential.
Proven ability to lead regulatory or business change from assessment through implementation, including coordination across processes,
controls, data and technology.
Understanding of financial-services operations, transaction lifecycles and upstream data or booking dependencies; ability to learn relevant
tax rules and apply them operationally.
Experience defining business requirements and partnering with Engineering or change teams to deliver controlled process and technology
enhancements.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions and
locations.
Sound judgment, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize competing, time-sensitive deliverables in a fast-paced environment
