A Day in the Life

The Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST) Operating Unit is a global leader in spinal implants, biologics, surgical navigation, robotics, and enabling technologies. CST partners with healthcare professionals to advance cranial and spinal procedures through integrated solutions that support procedural planning, surgical precision, and patient outcomes.
As Vice President, CST Japan, you will lead one of Medtronic's most strategic businesses in a key global healthcare market. This role has enterprise-wide accountability for commercial performance, market development, organizational leadership, and execution of growth strategies across the CST portfolio in Japan.
This position is based in Tokyo, Japan and requires regular domestic travel and periodic international travel.

As Vice President, CST Japan, you will serve as the senior leader responsible for the overall performance of the CST business in Japan. Reporting to the Vice President, CST International, you will lead business strategy, commercial execution, organizational development, and operational performance to deliver sustainable growth while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and customer partnership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic direction for CST Japan, ensuring achievement of revenue, profitability, market share, cash flow, quality, and compliance objectives.

  • Lead the development and execution of annual and multi-year business plans aligned with regional and global CST priorities.

  • Drive commercial performance across the Japan market, including sales growth, portfolio expansion, market development initiatives, and product launch execution.

  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing leadership team, establishing succession plans and talent strategies to strengthen organizational capability.

  • Establish governance and operating mechanisms that prioritize strategic initiatives, resource allocation, and business investment decisions.

  • Partner with regional and global stakeholders to align business objectives, secure organizational support, and accelerate growth opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with healthcare providers, key opinion leaders, policymakers, and other external stakeholders.

  • Ensure adherence to all applicable quality, regulatory, legal, financial, and compliance requirements while promoting Medtronic policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of relevant professional experience, or Master's degree and 13+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • 13+ years of people leadership experience with accountability for business performance through multiple layers of leadership.

  • Experience leading a business with annual revenue responsibility of at least $200 million.

  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese.

  • Demonstrated experience leading business strategy, commercial execution, and operational performance within the medical technology, healthcare, or closely related industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience within Spine, Cranial & Spinal Technologies, Orthopedics, or related medical device markets.

  • Experience leading large, complex business units within a global matrix organization.

  • Track record of delivering sustainable revenue growth, profitability improvement, and market share expansion.

  • Experience developing and executing market development strategies, product launches, and customer engagement initiatives.

  • Proven success building high-performing leadership teams and developing strong succession pipelines.
