Job Description: Digital Omnichannel Local Digital Representative

Department: Digital & Omnichannel | Location: Japan | Reports to: Digital Head, Sanofi Japan

---

Summary of the role

Reporting directly to the Digital Head, the Digital Omnichannel Local Digital Representative is a technology-driven digital leader who serves as the strategic architect and execution leader for Sanofi Japan's Omnichannel ecosystem. S(he) is accountable for defining the multi-year Omnichannel vision aligned with global digital strategy, assessing capability gaps across GBUs/Franchises, and driving adoption to world-class levels — eliminating unjustified disparities between business units.

Omnichannel leadership is at the core of this role — driving the end-to-end orchestration of digital touchpoints across email, web, mobile, social, and consent management to deliver seamless customer engagement in the Japan market.

What sets this role apart is not the ability to implement — that responsibility belongs to the Global Product team — but something arguably more valuable: the depth of hands-on development and implementation experience to understand exactly how things are built, why they work, and what it takes to make them work better in the Japanese market. This individual possesses the skills to implement, but deliberately chooses to focus their energy on maximizing the business value of solutions in the market. They engage with Global Product teams not as a passive recipient of technology, but as a credible, technically grounded partner who can challenge, negotiate, and co-create with authority.

You'll partner with GTMC's Omnichannel team — responsible for commercial capability building, content operations, and customer engagement execution — to align digital product strategy with business activation needs. This is a strategic role combining deep technical acumen with business leadership, shaping the future of customer engagement at Sanofi Japan.

As AI continues to compress the distance between product lines and end users, the defining value of this role lies in the ability to lead business transformation through technology understanding — not just alongside it.

Key Responsibilities

For the Digital Omnichannel products under her/his scope:

Strategic Planning & Vision

• Define Sanofi Japan's Omnichannel strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned with global digital direction

• Establish success metrics and target state vision for each GBU/Franchise, and continuously update strategic goals based on market evolution and global product releases

• Conduct capability gap analysis across business units and develop closure plans to elevate adoption levels — eliminating unjustified disparities between GBUs/Franchises

Global Community Leadership & Innovation

• Active participation and leadership in the Global Omnichannel Community

• Bring global best practices to the Japan market and share Japan's learnings and practices back to the global community

• Influence Global Product teams' roadmap and strategy with market insights and requirements

• Navigate the dynamic shift from traditional Omnichannel to AI-powered next-generation customer engagement

• Co-create the future of customer relationships with BUs and GTMC in an evolving landscape where AI is fundamentally reshaping solutions

• Balance respect for proven approaches with bold exploration of emerging possibilities

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with GTMC's Omnichannel team — responsible for commercial capability building, content operations, and customer engagement execution — to align digital product strategy with business activation needs

• Collaborate with GBU/Franchise Marketing teams to translate business needs into digital requirements

• Act as the primary liaison between local business stakeholders and Global Digital Omnichannel Product teams; serve as key POC for business customers at country level, acting as primary gatekeeper for new requirements

Product Portfolio Ownership

• Be end-to-end accountable for digital products under his/her scope within Omnichannel in Japan

• Drive implementation, localization, and adoption of global digital products across all GBUs/Franchises; contribute actively to Product delivery teams providing market-specific business acumen and support Product Managers (and Product Owners) through implementation/activation locally

• Ensure that Digital Products/computerized systems meet all controls to address applicable data privacy, audit, and cybersecurity requirements at local level

• Manage content digital marketing platforms (DAM; Promomats) and provide insights to business and GTMC teams regarding new content foundation

• Contribute to boosting consent management (Akamai) and optimise use of CPC for customer consent and profile management

• Ensure websites optimization program and global positioning guidance compliance

• Collaborate with Global Omnichannel Product teams to release global-to-local strategies, roadmaps, and deployment plans; monitor the evolution of digital technologies — including AI-driven search, generative tools, and emerging martech — and proactively assess their relevance and applicability to the Japan market

Technical Leadership & Advocacy

• Develop business value proposals using a deep understanding of business processes and technology to help business stakeholders achieve their desired outcomes — translating local business requirements into precise technical specifications that Global teams can act on, and vice versa

• Work with Digital and Business stakeholders to elicit requirements and capture business needs (digital demand management); understand the customer journey, and define user requirements feeding into global product features backlog (innovation loopback)

• Engage with Digital and Business stakeholders and influence project decisions; assess the risks of various solutions and prioritize competing business demands — leveraging hands-on development and implementation experience to accurately understand concrete steps and processes, enabling constructive and efficient collaboration with Global teams

• Be the expert of local business acumen, processes, technical requirements, and local tech stack; identify gaps between global product capabilities and local market requirements and propose technically sound, feasible solutions

• Design and oversee measurement frameworks — defining what to measure, why, and how — across web, social, and marketing automation channels; lead troubleshooting at the root-cause level, designing resolution approaches rather than applying surface-level fixes

• Support and advise the business on how to maximise value and utilisation of global digital products to support their business strategies

• Negotiate feature requests, customizations, and implementation timelines with Global Product stakeholders in English, backed by technical rationale

• Engage with Digital Omnichannel community members acting as local representative of this stream

• Provide strategic partnering for Digital Marketing channels and technologies including email management tools (SFMC), websites (Magnolia), mobile apps, chatbots, etc.

Capability Building

• Coach business customers to make use of technology and data, driving adoption of global digital products; champion digital capability building across the GTMC team, elevating the team's collective digital maturity

Technical Competencies (Core to this role)

> Important framing: Expertise in any specific product or platform is *not* the primary criterion. What matters is a strong foundational understanding of digital technology that enables rapid adaptation to any omnichannel solution encountered.

Domain

What We're Looking For

Web Technology Fundamentals

Working knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript, browser mechanics, HTTP protocols, cookie and session management. Understanding of how the web works, not just how to use tools built on top of it

Data & Analytics Architecture

Understanding of web analytics (e.g., GA4), tag management (e.g., GTM), and data layer design. Ability to design measurement strategy — not just operate dashboards

SEO / GEO Technical Understanding

Technical SEO (crawling, indexing, structured data) and Generative Engine Optimization (AI search optimization) understood as engineering concepts, not just content strategy

Social Media Technology Stack

Understanding of paid/organic delivery logic, pixel implementation, Conversion APIs, and audience segmentation mechanics

API & Data Integration

Foundational understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and data flow design. Ability to reason about how systems connect and where integration points exist

Marketing Automation Logic

Understanding of journey design, segmentation logic, and personalization mechanics — independent of any specific platform (e.g., SFMC)

Technical Troubleshooting

Ability to diagnose root causes and design implementation-level solutions — not just escalate or apply workarounds

Preferred Background

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or above in Information Engineering, Computer Science, Digital Marketing, or a related field

Years of Experience:

• 6–10 years of total relevant experience, with a minimum of 3–4 years in hands-on digital implementation or technical roles

Ideal Career Paths (any of the following):

• Experience leading omnichannel digital ecosystem implementations across multiple channels (email, web, mobile, social, consent management) — demonstrating breadth of cross-channel technical delivery

• Hands-on experience with marketing automation platforms and customer engagement platforms in a technical capacity — demonstrating platform-agnostic adaptability rather than single-tool dependency

• Digital agency or consultancy background with multi-client, multi-solution technical delivery experience — evidence of platform-agnostic technical capability

• Experience in technical requirements definition and negotiation with global product teams, in an English-language working environment

• Experience working in regulated industries (e.g., pharmaceutical, financial services, healthcare IT, or telecommunications) where digital implementation requires strict compliance with regulatory frameworks (data privacy, audit trails, change management, approval workflows) is strongly preferred. Candidates from non-regulated industries are welcome if they can demonstrate hands-on experience navigating compliance constraints in digital project delivery.

> Critical Note: This role does not involve hands-on development or implementation — that is the responsibility of the Global Product team. However, candidates *must* have prior development and implementation experience. This background is essential for accurately understanding the concrete steps and processes involved, and for enabling productive, technically credible collaboration with Global teams. The ideal candidate *can* build — and precisely because they can, they know how to partner effectively with those who do.
